Just a few steps from the University of Milan, on Via Francesco Sforza, opposite number 41, on the tenth anniversary of the death of the Nobel Prize in Literature, the ceremony to name Largo Dario Fo (1926-2016) took place, with the participation of Mayor Giuseppe Sala. He unveiled the plaque together with Mattea Fo, president of the Fo Rame Foundation. Also present, among others, was the Culture Councillor Tommaso Sacchi.
“We didn’t want to lose even a single day,” Sala explained (the naming occurred, in fact, on the first possible day according to municipal rules, ndr). “To find any definition for him would be partial and banal. I refuse to define the art of this genius that our city has been able to enjoy for so long,” he added.
The Lombard capital pays homage to Fo
During the ceremony in which Milan pays homage to Fo, passages from his most famous work, Mistero Buffo, were read, and there was also a performance by Lodo Guenzi, who delivered a reading from Morte accidentale di un anarchico.
“Ten years ago it was raining and today the sun shines,” emphasized Mattea Fo, Dario’s and Franca’s granddaughter. She hopes that “the City will reopen the Liberty-style building named after Dario Fo and Franca Rame and will develop a concrete project for that space, which, we hope, becomes truly a place for memory and for the enhancement of their theater, giving ample room to young people.”
As reported by ANSA, in this regard Tommaso Sacchi indicated that the building will reopen and that “by the end of the year it will be the centerpiece of a remembrance of Dario Fo”. “We will organize something special with the foundation. We have restored it; the restoration was complicated, but the ground floor is now ready to host theatre and the spoken word in the spirit of what Dario Fo stood for,” he added.
