We begin this journey with a highly anticipated debut that has already made waves abroad: that of Nelio Biedermann, born in 2003, who signs with Guanda for I Lázár (translated by Leonella Basiglini). The novel tells “the impetuous fate of a nation through the saga of an extraordinary family.” The Lázár are a Hungarian aristocratic family who, generation after generation, for more than half a century (from the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to 1957) pass down secrets, forbidden passions and unspeakable sins. The family, swept by History (between world wars, the advent of totalitarianisms, revolutions, the persecution of Jews), nevertheless never abandons, however, a heartbreaking, unceasing search for love… As for the young author, he grew up in Thalwil on Lake Zurich. His paternal family hails from Hungarian nobility, and his grandparents sought refuge in Switzerland in the 1950s. International critics consider him one of the most interesting new literary voices of recent years.
We come to an interesting September 2026 novelty for fans of Italian thrillers: the awaited debut of Elena Dottini (already author of short stories and graduate in Foreign Languages and Literatures). The Illusion of the Void opens up toward Mantua, in a ditch where a mummified corpse has been found. Deputy Chief Michele Canfora and his team begin investigating, but from the family and friends no leads, clues, or hypotheses seem to arrive. Yet something has happened… With the help of two informants and the tricks of the trade, Canfora uncovers “the lurid mysteries” that the quiet province wanted to hide.
