Could โnubโ be Victoriaโs Papasan chair?
No, probably not. But even so, it seems like she was very attached to that chair. What if I located Victoriaโs chair downstairs and brought it up to her? Obviously, she couldnโt sit in it very long, especially since she seems to have trouble supporting her own head, but considering how much she loved that chair, it might be worth a shot.
I imagine the look of surprise and happiness on her face when she sees her old chair. I have to do this.
First I have to figure out what the hell a Papasan chair is.
I google what a Papasan chair looks like. It sort of looks like a bowl. It doesnโt seem terribly comfortable, honestly, but Iโm not going to doubt Victoriaโs word. In any case, I donโt recall seeing it downstairs. But then again, I wasnโt looking.
I head downstairs to the living room and find Maggie folding laundry on the sofa. She smiles brightly at me. Sheโs always eager to take a break from her housework. โHowโs it going?โ
I scan the living room quickly. Theyโve got an enormous sectional sofa, a lounge chair, a giant TV, and multiple bookcasesโฆ but no chairs shaped like a dish. โDo you know where Victoriaโs Papasan chair is?โ
Maggie looks at me blankly. โHer what?โ โPapasan chair.โ
โWhat the hell is that?โ
Iโm relieved Iโm not the only person who didnโt know what a Papasan chair is. โItโs a chair that kind of looks like a bowl. You sit in it.โ (Obviously. Itโs a chair.)
She folds up a pair of khaki slacks that look like they belong to Adam. โI havenโt seen any chairs that look like bowls down here. Sorry.โ
โIs there a place where they store furniture?โ
She frowns. โMaybe the attic? Iโm not sure. You should ask Adam.โ
The last thing I want to do is bother Adam when heโs helping Victoria with her hygiene. But itโs been long enough now that I would hope heโs done. He might be searching for me right now. So I carefully climb the
stairs to Victoriaโs room, where sure enough, heโs got her back in her wheelchair.
When he sees me standing in the doorway, he flashes a wide grin. โHey. Perfect timing.โ
โI got a question for you.โ โShoot.โ
โDo you have a Papasan chair here?โ His brows scrunch together. โA what?โ
Iโm feeling less than optimistic that weโre ever going to find this chair. โItโs a chair thatโs sort of shaped like a bowl.โ
He blinks a few times. โDo you need an extra chair for your bedroom?โ
โNo, Iโฆโ This is hopeless. He has no idea what Iโm talking about.
Obviously, at some point, Victoria got rid of the chair. โNever mind.โ
Adam pulls off the latex gloves he was wearing. โBecause if you need any furniture, Iโd be happy to get it for you. Just let me know.โ
This man is exactly how Victoria described him. Heโs so generous. Anything she asked for, he would get her. And then some. Heโs so good- natured. He didnโt deserve this to happen to him. And neither did she
Life is so unfair.
