Chapter no 2 – JAMESON

The Brothers Hawthorne

The roar of the falls. The mist in the air. The feel of the back of Averyโ€™s body against the front of his. Jameson Winchester Hawthorne wasย hungry

โ€”for this, for her, for everything, all of it,ย more.

Iguazรบ Falls was the worldโ€™s largest waterfall system. The walkway they were standing on took them right up to the edge of an incredible drop-off. Staring out at the falls, Jameson felt the lure ofย more. He eyed the railing. โ€œDo you dare me?โ€ he murmured into the back of Averyโ€™s head.

She reached back to touch his jaw. โ€œAbsolutely not.โ€

Jamesonโ€™s lips curvedโ€”a teasing smile, a wicked one. โ€œYouโ€™re probably right, Heiress.โ€

She turned her head to the side and met his gaze. โ€œProbably?โ€

Jameson looked back at the falls.ย Unstoppable. Off limits. Deadly.

โ€œProbably.โ€

They were staying in a villa built on stilts and surrounded by jungle, no one around for miles but the two of them, Averyโ€™s security team, and the jaguars roaring in the distance.

Jameson felt Averyโ€™s approach before he heard it.

โ€œHeads or tails?โ€ She leaned against the railing, brandishing a bronze-and-silver coin. Her brown hair was falling out of its ponytail, her long-sleeved shirt still damp from the falls.

Jameson brought his hand to her hair tie, then worked it slowly and

gently downโ€”and off.ย Heads or tailsย was an invitation. A challenge.ย You kiss me, or I kiss you.ย โ€œDealerโ€™s choice, Heiress.โ€

โ€œIf Iโ€™m the dealerโ€ฆโ€ Avery placed a palm flat on his chest, her eyes daring him to do something about that wet shirt of hers. โ€œWeโ€™re going to need cards.โ€

The things we could do, Jameson thought,ย with a deck of cards.ย But before he could voice some of the more tantalizing possibilities, the satellite phone buzzed. Only five people had the number: his brothers, her sister, and her lawyer. Jameson groaned.

The text was from Nash. Nine seconds later, when the satellite phone rang, Jameson answered. โ€œDelightful timing, as always, Gray.โ€

โ€œI take it you received Nashโ€™s message?โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ve been summoned,โ€ Jameson intoned. โ€œYou planning to play hooky again?โ€

Each Hawthorne brother got a single nine-one-one a year. The code didnโ€™t meanย emergencyย so much asย I want you all here, but if one brother texted, the others came, no questions asked. Ignoring a nine-one-one led toโ€ฆ consequences.

โ€œIf you sayย one wordย about leather pants,โ€ Grayson bit out. โ€œI willโ€”โ€

โ€œDid you sayย leather pants?โ€ Jameson was enjoying this way too much. โ€œYouโ€™re breaking up, Gray. Are you asking me to send you a picture of the incredibly tight leather pants you had to wear the one time you ignored a nine-one-one?โ€

โ€œDo not send me a pictureโ€”โ€

โ€œA video?โ€ Jameson asked loudly. โ€œYou want a video of yourself singing karaoke in the leather pants?โ€

Avery plucked the phone from his hands. She knew as well as Jameson did that there would be no ignoring Nashโ€™s summons, and she had a bad habit ofย notย tormenting his brothers.

โ€œItโ€™s me, Grayson.โ€ Avery examined Nashโ€™s text herself. โ€œWeโ€™ll see you in London.โ€
