Chapter no 60

The Alpha's Pen Pal (Crescent Lake)

HAVEN

โ€œHaven! Oh my goodness, youโ€™re all right! I was so worried.โ€

A head of blonde hair raced towards me down the hall as I exited the office with Nolan and Reid right behind me. Imogenโ€™s body slammed into mine, and she hugged me tightly.

โ€œImogen? What are you doing here?โ€ I asked, my eyes widening as I returned her hug. Maya came down the hall as well, and I smiled at her over Imogenโ€™s shoulder.

โ€œThat girl Sarina drove us here the other night after you were attacked, and Sebastian brought you here,โ€ she said. โ€œAre you okay?โ€ she asked as she pulled back to look at me.

โ€œIโ€™m okay, I guess. Yeah.โ€ I shrugged.

โ€œHowโ€™d you heal so quickly?โ€ Imogen looked around at Nolan and Reid and then at Maya. โ€œAre youโ€ฆ are you one of them too?โ€

โ€œShe knows?โ€ I asked, glancing at Nolan.

โ€œI saw him as a wolf,โ€ she said, pointing at Nolan, โ€œand then Ramรณn kindly explained everything to me when I panicked, thinking Nolan was the one who bit you.โ€

โ€œShe had to sign a contract spelled by a witch to never reveal what she knows about us to anyone who doesnโ€™t already know about us,โ€ Nolan explained.

โ€œIt was either that or have my memory wiped, and that didnโ€™t sound very safe or fun, so I chose secret keeping instead!โ€ Imogen said.

โ€œWell, Iโ€™m not one of them,โ€ I replied. โ€œThe doctor confirmed that I am one hundred percent human, just like I knew I was. And I wonโ€™t turn into one,โ€ I added, anticipating her next question. โ€œWhy havenโ€™t you gone home yet, though?โ€

โ€œWell, they wanted to ask me some questions about what happened that night. And then I had to sign that magical contract. Plus, Mr. Stone isnโ€™t letting me leave until they find the wolf who attacked you,โ€ Imogen rushed out. โ€œBut that means we can have girl time!โ€

โ€œOoh, yes, we can go back to your place,โ€ Maya said, clapping her hands. โ€œYour clothes just came in since I made Wes pay extra for overnight shipping.โ€ She looked at Nolan and Reid. โ€œThe boxes are in the packhouse entry. Can you grab them and bring them to Wes and Havenโ€™s?โ€

โ€œMyโ€ฆ clothes?โ€ I asked, my brow furrowing.

โ€œYes,โ€ Maya said, linking her arm through mine and leading me towards the door. Reid and Nolan went to grab the boxes, and Imogen fell into step behind us. โ€œYour mate had me order you basically an entire new wardrobe

โ€”clothes, shoes, dancewearโ€”everything.โ€

I pursed my lips together to keep in the groan threatening to escape me at that information. Part of me loved that he thought about making sure I had

clothing and whatever else I needed in our house. The other part of me hated that heโ€™d spent so much money on me. Not just on the clothes, but to get them there so quickly. I would have been fine with what Reid had brought for at least a few more days.

โ€œDonโ€™t even try to turn down this gift from him!โ€ Maya warned. โ€œI worked my ass off, hunched over Wesleyโ€™s laptop all damn day yesterday, ordering this stuff for you while he built you that delightful dance studio.โ€

โ€œHe built you a dance studio?โ€ Imogen asked, and I nodded. โ€œOh, my god, that is the most adorable thing I have ever heard. Please show me?โ€

โ€œI thought you were team โ€˜Wesley sucks?โ€™โ€

โ€œThat was Friday Imogen. Now itโ€™s Sunday, and I am a new woman,โ€ she said as we walked into the house. โ€œAlso, they explained the whole โ€˜soulmatesโ€™ thing to me and the pen pal thing in more detail, and now Iโ€™m definitely team Haveley.โ€

Maya snorted, and I wrinkled my brow. โ€œTeam Haveley?โ€

โ€œYeah, Haven and Wesley combined makes Haveley. Hashtag Haveley forever!โ€ Imogen exclaimed. โ€œThatโ€™s going to be your wedding tag. Iโ€™ve decided.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re not getting married, Imogen!โ€

โ€œThe way Reid explained it, you basically already are in their eyes.โ€ She shrugged. โ€œNow, show me this dance studio.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll be in your room,โ€ Maya called after us as I led Imogen down the hall. I opened the door to my studio, and Imogen walked in, her eyes examining everything in that critical way of hers. Not because she was rude, but because she was a detail-oriented person. Because, like me, she needed to absorb even the smallest detail before making a judgment or

stating her opinion.

That was probably why we didnโ€™t get along well at first. We were too much alike. Too closed off, too focused on our careers, too hypercritical of ourselves to let others in. And our standoffish ways made others think we were unapproachable.

But I realized I needed to stop shutting everyone out. Not everyone was out to get me, to hurt me. Not these people surrounding me at Crescent Lake, at least.

Imogen walked over to the frames on the wall and looked at each one, then turned to the mirrors and laughed. โ€œHeโ€™s going to put a real mirror there,โ€ I said. โ€œThis is just temporary.โ€

โ€œNo, itโ€™s perfect. Itโ€™s so thoughtful of him to put a bunch of mirrors there until the actual wall mirror can be installed.โ€ She sighed and turned in place, looking at the room one more time. โ€œI want a werewolf soulmate!โ€ she whined, her bottom lip sticking out.

I just giggled, and I heard Maya laughing down the hall as well. โ€œI thought you werenโ€™t a one-man woman?โ€ Maya yelled.

โ€œIโ€™d turn into one if he was a sexy werewolf who made me a dance studio in his house โ€™cause I was mad at him!โ€ Imogen called back. โ€œNot your sexy werewolf,โ€ she clarified, looking at me. โ€œI have no intention of trying to steal him from you. You two are clearly meant for each other. Anyone can see that.โ€

โ€œExcept Reid, apparently,โ€ Nolan said as they walked down the hall with two boxes each in their arms.

โ€œNever going to let me live this one down, are you?โ€ Reid grumbled.

โ€œNot until the next time you lose one of Sebโ€™s bets,โ€ Maddie answered from behind him, her arms also full of packages.

โ€œWe only have one bet left, and Iโ€™m never losing that one,โ€ he said.

โ€œAnd whatโ€™s that bet?โ€ she asked.

โ€œWouldnโ€™t you like to know?โ€ he answered, smirking at Maddie over his shoulder.

โ€œDuh, thatโ€™s why I asked, dickhead,โ€ she replied with a roll of her eyes.

โ€œWell, itโ€™s a good thing he built you this studio. Youโ€™ll need a place to rehearse and condition,โ€ Imogen continued as the three of them disappeared into the bedroom, and we heard the boxes being opened.

โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€ I asked.

โ€œSince you wonโ€™t be at rehearsals? Or classes?โ€ I blinked at her. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, what?โ€

โ€œOh. Umโ€ฆโ€ She glanced over my shoulder, and I turned to see Nolan standing there, leaning against the doorframe.

โ€œWes should really be the one to talk to you about all this, but he doesnโ€™t even know yet,โ€ he sighed. โ€œWe met with Alpha Harrison and Peter. They agreed youโ€™ll need to stay here in our territory and not go to the city for rehearsals.โ€

โ€œUntil they catch Lennox,โ€ I said with a nod. โ€œThat makes sense,โ€ I told him. โ€œIt sucks, but I get it. They want me to be safe.โ€ Nolan just stared at me, and Imogen looked at her feet as she did some impromptuย tendรบs. โ€œThatโ€™s not what you mean, though, is it?โ€ I asked.

โ€œNo,โ€ he sighed and rubbed his head. โ€œItโ€™s not just keeping you safe while Lennox is on the loose. The other alpha is still out there tooโ€”the one we were trying to incriminateโ€”โ€

โ€œTiny Tim,โ€ Maddie said as she walked around Nolan. โ€œWhat?โ€ he asked, frowning at her.

โ€œTiny Tim. I figured with all his big talk and showboating and everything, he must have a tiny dick heโ€™s trying to compensate for,โ€ she told him.

Nolan lifted his eyes to the ceiling and muttered, โ€œGoddess, help her mate.โ€ Then looked back at me. โ€œAnyway, heโ€™s still out there somewhere, too. But the biggest issue is your healing.โ€

โ€œBut Iโ€™m healed,โ€ I said, my hand moving to my scars.

โ€œExactly,โ€ Maddie nodded. โ€œYou shouldnโ€™t be healed yet. The company all knows about the attack, because nothing is a secret ever, and if you show up at rehearsal tomorrow with only a few scars, well. Theyโ€™ll be suspicious,โ€ she explained, glancing at the scars on my neck and taking my hand.

I swallowed against the tightening in my throat but nodded. โ€œOf course,โ€ I whispered. โ€œThat makes sense.โ€

Because it did make sense. I hated to admit that they were right, but they were. It would be suspicious for me to show up to rehearsal already healed after an extensive injury like Iโ€™d had. Too many people would ask too many questions.

โ€œYou need to make it seem as though Iโ€™m still healing. Still in the hospital,โ€ I continued. โ€œBut if I canโ€™t go to rehearsals, then I wonโ€™t be able to be in the next ballet. Inย The Nutcracker,โ€ I added.

Nolan shook his head. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Luna.โ€

I blew out a breath and didnโ€™t even bother to correct him for using my title instead of my name. โ€œItโ€™s fine. Iโ€™m fine,โ€ I told them, even though I wasnโ€™t. โ€œI understand.โ€

I squeezed Maddieโ€™s hand and gave Imogen a weak smile. โ€œIโ€™m going to go help Maya with my clothes,โ€ I said.

I walked into our room just as Reid said, โ€œOh shit. Nope. No. I am not touching anything in THAT box. I enjoy being alive.โ€

โ€œWhy not?โ€ Maddie asked, rushing around me to peek inside of it. โ€œOh, this is the fun box!โ€ she declared.

โ€œIโ€™m out. Bye, Haven, Iโ€™ll see you later,โ€ he said, lifting his hand in a wave as he scurried out the door. โ€œCome on, Nolan, letโ€™s see if Wes has any cookies today.โ€

โ€œWhy is that the fun box?โ€ I asked, walking over to Maddie.

โ€œBecause of this!โ€ she exclaimed, lifting out a piece of black lace lingerie.

My cheeks turned bright red, and I snatched it out of her hands and hid it behind my back.

โ€œMaddie!โ€ Maya scolded, and I could hear Imogen giggling behind me.

โ€œWhat? Iโ€™m not stupid. I know what mates do.โ€ She shrugged. โ€œI mean, no, I donโ€™t want to think about my brother seeing his mate in these, but I can also admit that Haven would look fucking hot in any of them,โ€ she added as she continued to dig through the box.

โ€œPlease stop,โ€ I groaned, grabbing the box from her and taking it into the closet, where I set it on the ottoman in the center of the large space. โ€œWhy did you buy these?โ€ I directed at Maya.

โ€œBecause, like Maddie said, youโ€™ll look fucking hot in them,โ€ she said with a smile as she continued organizing the clothes in the closet. โ€œWesley will go crazy and wonโ€™t be able to keep his hands off you.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t think thatโ€™s a problem she needs to worry about!โ€ Maddie called from the bedroom. โ€œBut the lingerie will still be a hit!โ€

Maya shook her head and pulled out a small box. โ€œHere,โ€ she said, handing it to me. โ€œItโ€™s just something small. Something to put on your bracelet.โ€ I opened the box, and nestled inside was a tiny, rose gold crescent moon charm, with Swarovski crystals embedded into the curve. โ€œItโ€™s because youโ€™ll be the Crescent Lake luna,โ€ Maya said.

โ€œItโ€™s beautiful,โ€ I told her, looking at her with a smile. โ€œThank you,โ€ I added, taking her hand and squeezing it.

โ€œOf course!โ€ she said. โ€œYouโ€™re my best friend, and I canโ€™t wait for you to be our luna. And you better let me design your gown if you have a wedding.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know if we will, but if we do, I wouldnโ€™t have it any other way,โ€ I replied, giving her a hug. โ€œJust no glitter.โ€
