Chapter no 21

Taming 7 (Boys of Tommen, 5)

โ€œI want a big dirty takeaway, with a minimum of three thousand calories and a side order of grease,โ€ Gerard announced when he staggered into my bedroom late Saturday evening. โ€œSeriously, babe.โ€ Clad in gray sweatpants and a white muscle vest, and with his blond hair standing on end, he looked like a broken man. โ€œIโ€™m fading away here.โ€

โ€œOh my god?โ€ I half-gasped, half-laughed, as I took in his disheveled appearance. โ€œWhoย brokeย you?โ€

โ€œWhoโ€™d you think?โ€ came his disgusted response as he stumbled towards me. โ€œQuick, push over, babe, my legs are bolloxed.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t you meanย bambied?โ€ I snickered, using the new word Iโ€™d learned, courtesy of Joeyโ€™s baby mama.

โ€œSeriously, theyโ€™re shaking so bad it feels like my kneecaps are about to dislocate from the rest of me,โ€ he groaned, causing a laugh to escape me.

According to Aoife, getting bambied was when a boy made you orgasm so violently that your legs shook like a baby deer trying to stand up for the first time. Since moving into the annex at the Kavanaghโ€™s house with Joey and AJ, Aoife had become something of a revered, seductive goddess to the rest of us girls, doling out wisdom and knowledge that blew our minds.

Seriously, I had learned more about sex in the last few weeks Iโ€™d spent hanging out with Joeyโ€™s baby mama than I had in my entire sixteen years on earth.

Aoife was joining us at Tommen after the Halloween holidays, and I couldnโ€™t wait. Aside from the fact that it was awesome to see Katie come out of her shell with her childhood friend present, what her presence did for Joey was incomparable.

โ€œLook at those tremors,โ€ I cackled when Gerard faceplanted my mattress, narrowly avoiding Cherub, who was curled up on my lap, taking a break from the ever-boisterous Tom, Dick, and Harry โ€“ the three male kittens Mam agreed to let us keep from Brian and Cherubโ€™s adorable litter this past summer. Salt and Pepper had been adopted by cousins of ours living in Bandon, while a friend of Sadhbhโ€™s in Clonakilty had adopted Millicent.

Yeah, that had been a dark day for the Biggs-Gibson family.

โ€œYou think thatโ€™s funny but itโ€™s not,โ€ Gerard groaned into the mattress. โ€œBecause that bastard fucked me harder in the gym today than he ever did Little Shannon.โ€

โ€œGerard,ย ew!โ€ I grimaced, slapping at his sweaty shoulder. โ€œYou couldnโ€™t take a shower before you came over?โ€

โ€œShower?โ€ He raised his head to gape at me. โ€œClaire, it took everything I had in me to get back to you!โ€

โ€œIt couldnโ€™t have been that bad.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s a madman,โ€ he argued. โ€œA sadist. I never want to see the inside of a gym again.โ€

โ€œYeah, well, you agreed to go to the gym with him in exchange for pints at Biddies last night,โ€ I reminded him. โ€œAnd if I recall correctly, you also asked him to train you up so that you could get a spot in The Academy.โ€

โ€œTrain me, Claire,โ€ he deadpanned. โ€œNot break my will.โ€

I covered my mouth to stifle a laugh. โ€œSo, youโ€™re not sold on the professional rugby player career anymore?โ€

โ€œFuck that,โ€ he groaned, and, with a great deal of effort, rolled onto his back. โ€œI was built for comfort not speed. Iโ€™ll join the family business and become a baker.โ€

โ€œYou are a great baker,โ€ I indulged him by saying.

โ€œIย amย a great baker,โ€ he agreed, looking up at me with a delighted expression. โ€œIโ€™ve seriously improved.โ€

โ€œHands down,โ€ I praised. โ€œYouโ€™re like a different person in the kitchen since you took the job at the bakery.โ€ Smiling, I added, โ€œAnd your fairy cakes are the best Iโ€™ve ever tasted.โ€

โ€œSee, this is why I love you.โ€ He reached out a hand to stroke Cherub. โ€œYou get me.โ€

โ€œI do get you,โ€ I laughed, gently placing my purring queen on top of his back. โ€œWhich is why I must add that this ripped version of Gerard Gibsonโ€”โ€ I paused to trail a finger over the fabric that concealed his recently renewed abdominal muscles, before climbing off the bed โ€œโ€”is pretty, but I like the old version best.โ€

โ€œYou miss my love handles,โ€ he purred, carefully rolling onto his back and then setting Cherub back down on his stomach. โ€œYou prefer a little extra Gibs to keep you warm at night, donโ€™t you?โ€

โ€œMaybe?โ€ I laughed, not that he ever had love handles to begin with. โ€œHere,โ€ I said, distracting myself from my lustful thoughts by scooping up our three mischievous kittens and carrying them over to the bed. โ€œSay hello to your daddy.โ€

โ€œDick!โ€ Gerard cooed, snatching up the furriest of the three. โ€œHow are you, son?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t forget to give Tom and Harry some attention,โ€ I warned, climbing back onto the mattress. โ€œYouโ€™re always favoring Dick.โ€

โ€œBut thatโ€™s only because I love my Dick,โ€ he continued to coo, holding the kitten up to his face so that they could rub noses. โ€œIsnโ€™t that right, son? Youโ€™re my favorite, arenโ€™t you? Yes, you are with your little pink nose and teeny tiny paws.โ€

โ€œGerard!โ€

โ€œAlright, alright.โ€ Reluctantly setting down the beautiful ginger-haired kitten, he turned his attention to Dickโ€™s littermates. โ€œListen, babe, you know I love all our kids, and I know itโ€™s not their fault, but I canโ€™t look at Tom and Harry without seeingย him.โ€

โ€œGerard,โ€ I gasped in horror, snatching up Harry. โ€œHowย couldย you?โ€

โ€œI know,โ€ he agreed with a groan. โ€œItโ€™s terrible, isnโ€™t it? But I canโ€™t help it. Theyโ€™ve got his beady green eyes and that creepy white hair โ€ฆ โ€

โ€œBrian might have fathered them, but you are their dad! And dads are supposed to love all of their children equally!โ€

โ€œI know!โ€ Throwing his hands up in defeat, he added, โ€œThatโ€™s whyย I wanted to keep Millicent. She was every inch her motherโ€™s daughter.โ€ He pointed to Cherub who was still snoozing on his lap. โ€œLook at that pussy. Look at how beautiful and sweet she isโ€”โ€

โ€œOh my God, I canโ€™t believe this!โ€ I shrieked, scooping up the boys and stomping back to their basket. โ€œYou donโ€™t love our babies.โ€

โ€œIย do! I do love our babies, Claire!โ€ Bambied legs forgotten, Gerard sprang off the bed and hurried after me. โ€œBut that bastard Brian has given me an awful life. You know that. Remember when he snuck up on me in the shower and scratched my gooch? Or the time he bit my toe and I had to get a tetanus shot? Heย traumatizedย me, Claire. I canโ€™t help it if every time I look at Tom and Harry, Iโ€™m triggered!โ€

โ€œThis is terrible,โ€ I wailed, kneeling in front of the basket full of kittens. โ€œDonโ€™t worry, babies, Iโ€™m as disappointed in your father as you are.โ€

โ€œWaitโ€”โ€ snatching me up in one swift move, Gerard set me on my feet facing him โ€œโ€”are we in a fight?โ€

โ€œYou know what, Gerard?โ€ I planted my hands on my hips. โ€œI think we are.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re a team, babe,โ€ he tried to reason, wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me flush against him. โ€œWe donโ€™t fight.โ€

โ€œOh, no, no, no,โ€ I warned, reaching up to twist his ear. โ€œDonโ€™tย babeย me, Gerard Gibson. You canโ€™t smooth talk your way out of this.โ€

โ€œOkay, ouch!โ€ he grumbled, cupping his ear. โ€œWas there any need for violence?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ I replied emphatically.

โ€œEverything alright, you two?โ€ A light knock on my bedroom door sounded moments before it cracked open, and Mamโ€™s head appeared. โ€œI thought I heard shouting.โ€

โ€œGerard doesnโ€™t love all of our babies,โ€ I cried out in outrage. โ€œHe only loves one!โ€

โ€œNo, I love them all,โ€ he defended, looking flustered. โ€œI just donโ€™t like looking at two of them.โ€

โ€œIs it Tom and Harry?โ€ Mam asked in a sympathetic tone. โ€œIs it because they look like Brian?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ we both chorused in equal volumes of outrage.

โ€œOh dear.โ€ Pushing the door fully open, Mam walked into my room, using her hand to cover her smile. โ€œOkay, letโ€™s have it.โ€ Walking over to my bed, Mam sat down and crossed her legs. โ€œOne at a time.โ€

โ€œI have spentย monthsย looking after our babies,โ€ I got there first by saying. Okay, by screaming. โ€œDoing the night feeds when Cherub refused to look after them. I went without sleep for these babies when they are his responsibility, too!โ€

โ€œOh, no, no, no, donโ€™t even go there!โ€ he warned, holding a hand up. โ€œI have done everything I can for our babies!โ€

โ€œExcept love them,โ€ I spat back. โ€œYou big dick!โ€

โ€œLanguage, Claire,โ€ Mam scolded.

โ€œI beg your fucking pardon,โ€ Gerard choked out, eyes widening. โ€œWhoโ€™s the one who took them to his house every weekend to give you a break? And whoโ€™s the one that took a job at my mamโ€™s bakery to pay Cherubโ€™s maternity bill at the vets? Or for the boys to get their pediatric neutering so they didnโ€™t fuck their own mam and have incestuous hillbilly babies?โ€ He slapped his chest. โ€œThis big dick, thatโ€™s who!โ€

โ€œLanguage, Gibsie.โ€

โ€œOh yeah, Gerard.โ€ Ignoring my mamโ€™s request to tone it down, I rolled my eyes to the heavens and shouted, โ€œWhat a great weekend dad you are. Out with your wallet to make it all better. Fatherhood is about more than just money!โ€

โ€œReginald lives with me full time!โ€ he shouted back at me, throwing his hands up. โ€œAnd I have never asked you to provide a single caterpillar in child support for him. No, because I dig up all the critters myself.ย Every day. So donโ€™t act all high and mighty with me, baby!โ€

โ€œAnd I appreciate you doing that,โ€ I begrudgingly shouted back. โ€œYou know I hate getting my nails dirty.โ€

โ€œIย doย know that.โ€ Planting his hands on his hips, Gerard nodded stiffly. โ€œThatโ€™s why I never ask you to do it.โ€

โ€œAnd for financing our babies,โ€ I said, still half-shouting, evenย though I could feel the fight leave my body. โ€œI appreciate you being the bread winner in our family, too.โ€

โ€œNo problem,โ€ he countered, tone still raised and hard, mirroring mine. โ€œItโ€™s the least I could do for you and the kids. I appreciate what a wonderful mother you are.โ€ Purposefully hardening his tone, he added, โ€œI wouldnโ€™t want to do this with anyone else.โ€

โ€œAnd youโ€™re so much more than a weekend father,โ€ I admitted, voice softening. โ€œAnd I wouldnโ€™t want to do this with anyone else, either.โ€

โ€œOkay then.โ€ He nodded stiffly. โ€œAre we still fighting, or can we hug it out?โ€

โ€œHug it out,โ€ I replied, bolting straight for him. โ€œDefinitely hug it out.โ€

โ€œThank Jesus,โ€ Gerard replied, wrapping me up in a bear hug. โ€œWorst ten minutes of my life.โ€

โ€œWhat am I going to do with the two of you?โ€ Mam laughed from her perch on my bed. โ€œYouโ€™re like an old married couple.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know, Sinead,โ€ Gibsie replied with a solemn shrug. โ€œBut whatever it is, could it revolve around food? Preferably something from the Chinese or the chipper.โ€

โ€œNo, no, please not the chipper,โ€ I protested, stepping around Gerard to get to my mam. โ€œWe had chipper food last Saturday night. Iโ€™ve been dying for beef satay all week.โ€

โ€œOoh, yeah.โ€ Gerardโ€™s eyes lit up. โ€œMake that two beef satays.โ€

โ€œWith black bean sauce.โ€

โ€œAnd egg fried rice.โ€

โ€œShould we get a portion of chips?โ€ I asked, tilting my head to one side. โ€œOr will we just have the prawn crackers?โ€

โ€œPrawn crackers,โ€ Gerard confirmed with a grim nod. โ€œRemember the last time we got the chips?โ€

โ€œThe salt and peppered ones?โ€

โ€œNo, those were savage. Iโ€™m talking about the soggy ones.โ€

โ€œEw, yeah.โ€ I scrunched my nose up at the memory. โ€œGood call, Gerard.โ€ Turning back to my mother, I reeled off our food order, tapping on a bottle of fizzy orange at the end.

โ€œWhen I asked what I was going to do with the two of you, I was referring to your antics in general,โ€ Mam said with a sigh of amusement. โ€œNot filling your bellies.โ€

โ€œFill our bellies,โ€ I encouraged, reaching over to pat Gerardโ€™s at the same time he reached out to pat mine.

โ€œYes, please do,โ€ he agreed with a solemn nod. โ€œWeโ€™re fading away here.โ€

โ€œYou two.โ€ Mam laughed. โ€œAlright. Iโ€™ll order the food. You two clean up those kittens and come downstairs and join the others.โ€

โ€œOthers?โ€

โ€œHugh and Katie are in the living room,โ€ she explained. โ€œIโ€™ll call the Chinese and order a delivery for the four of you before I head into work for my shift. Your father is in the office upstairs if you need him. Heโ€™s on a deadline for work, and you know what that means, so please only go up if you absolutely have to.โ€

My father, a once-upon-a-time super successful property developer, had thrown the towel in on his corporate job ten years ago. After his best friend died, Dad chose to give up the hustle and bustle, choosing instead to lock himself away in the attic writing murder mystery thrillers. It was cathartic for him, and his way of dealing with the grief that had overtaken him after Joe died. The fact his books were wildly popular was an added bonus.

โ€œWeโ€™ll be good,โ€ we both chorused, giving each other a knowing look. Because once Mam left for work, Dad wouldnโ€™t be coming downstairs to check on us.ย Free house.

โ€œHm.โ€ With another shake of her head, Mam walked out of the room. โ€œOh, and for future reference, keep the door open, Claire.โ€

โ€œBut what if Dick escapes and sneaks into Hughโ€™s room again?โ€ I called after her.

โ€œThatโ€™s not the dick Iโ€™m worried about escaping,โ€ Mam muttered under her breath.
