Chapter no 70 -โ€Œ โ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€ŒH I GHLIGHTS AND HEARTACHE

Redeeming 6 (Boys of Tommen, #4)

AOIFE

โ€œYOU AREย the queen of all things hair and makeup,โ€ Casey declared, doing a 360 twirl to get a good look at herself. โ€œInsane, Aoife. Your skills with makeup are un-freaking-real, girl!โ€

With her bedroom stereo turned up full blast, my best friend bopped around to KC & The Sunshine Bandโ€™sย Give It Up,ย while striking different poses in the full-length mirror glued to the back of her bedroom door.

After spending most of the day at her mamโ€™s flat, I felt better.

Casey had this innate ability of making me feel like my life wasnโ€™t going to shit. It wasnโ€™t that she was overly optimistic, she just happened to possess enough crazy to complement mine.

We just fit together like bacon and cabbage. Or vodka and coke.

โ€œIโ€™d like to thank the academy.โ€ I took a dramatic bow before tossing my

makeup brushes back into my bag. โ€œAnd myself, because, you know, Iโ€™m so amazing and all that jazz.โ€

โ€œYou could make some serious side cash doing makeup and up-styles.โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€ I flopped down on her bed and sighed heavily. โ€œThatโ€™s the plan, Case.โ€

โ€œI hope we have a girl,โ€ she said. โ€œSo, we can instill on her a lifetime of contouring wisdom and fashion knowledge.โ€

โ€œJoey wants a girl.โ€ โ€œHe does?โ€

โ€œYep, and thatโ€™s the one,โ€ I declared, watching as she readjusted the

skimpy black dress that she was modeling for her date tonight. โ€œSeriously, Case. You look fierce.โ€

โ€œHm.โ€ Sounding unconvinced, she studied her appearance in the mirror for a long beat before shaking her head and whipping the fabric over her head. โ€œIโ€™m going with the pink dress.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re making a mistake,โ€ I chimed in. โ€œThe black one makes you look like you have legs for days.โ€

โ€œBut the pink one makes my boobs look epic.โ€

โ€œSo?โ€ I snorted. โ€œAlecโ€™s seen your boobs a dozen times. He already knows how epic they are.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not going out with Alec tonight.โ€ My eyes lit up. โ€œMack?โ€

โ€œNope.โ€

โ€œRambo?โ€

โ€œNope.โ€

โ€œCharlie?โ€

โ€œNo one from our year, Aoif.โ€ โ€œWho then?โ€

โ€œPatrick.โ€

โ€œPatrick?โ€ My brows furrowed in confusion. โ€œWho the hell is โ€“ oh my

god.โ€ My eyes widened to saucers. โ€œThat lad from the Tommen party?โ€

Grinning, she bit down on her lip and nodded. โ€œNot too shabby for a girl from Elks, huh?โ€

โ€œWait.โ€ I choked out a surprised laugh. โ€œIsnโ€™t he like a fourth year?โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s seventeen and in fifth year. And like you can talk,โ€ she laughed back. โ€œIsnโ€™t your baby daddy younger than you?โ€

โ€œOh yeah, by three whole months.โ€ I rolled my eyes. โ€œIโ€™m the ultimate cougar.โ€

โ€œYeah, well, enjoy sitting your ass on the couch tonight growing your cub, because I am going on the prowl.โ€

โ€œHey, donโ€™t diss the couch life,โ€ I grumbled. โ€œWhereโ€™s he taking you?โ€ โ€œThe backseat of his car, if heโ€™s lucky.โ€

โ€œWow. Make him work for it, why donโ€™t you?โ€

โ€œStem the bitchy pregnancy hormones, un-virginal Mary.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m more virginal than you,โ€ I huffed. โ€œAt least Iโ€™ve only had one dick inside of me.โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€ She snorted. โ€œOne un-protected, over-productive dick.โ€ I grinned. โ€œIโ€™d take his dick any day over Sticky-Dicky.โ€

โ€œHey now, donโ€™t knock Sticky-Dicky.โ€ She waggled her brows. โ€œItโ€™s not all about the size of the boat, Aoif, itโ€™s the motion in the ocean.โ€

โ€œWhore.โ€

โ€œBlasphemy.โ€ She feigned a gasp. โ€œWhoโ€™s the one living in sin here? For shame, Molloy. What would Sister Alphonsus say if she saw you now? Tut-

tut.โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s something seriously wrong with us, isnโ€™t there?โ€™ โ€œProbably,โ€ she agreed with a laugh. โ€œI blame you.โ€ โ€œAnd I blame you.โ€

โ€œSo, Joey was really okay about the baby, huh?โ€ she asked, sobering her features, as she toed on a pair of six-inch heels. โ€œHe was supportive?โ€

โ€œHe took it so well, Case.โ€ I blew out a breath. โ€œI was so scared about how he would react.โ€

โ€œNah, I knew heโ€™d stick by you.โ€ She waved a hand around aimlessly. โ€œSay what you want about that boy, but heโ€™s good with kids.โ€

โ€œHeย isย good with kids,โ€ I agreed with a sigh. โ€œHe practically raised his youngest brother.โ€

โ€œWell then. At least one of you guys will know what youโ€™re doing,โ€ she replied, flopping down on the bed next to me. โ€œSo, any idea about what youโ€™re going to do aboutย yourย brother?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t, Case,โ€ I grumbled, feeling a swell of anger rise up inside of me at the mere mention of Kev. โ€œIโ€™m so done with him.โ€

โ€œYou canโ€™t be done with him, Aoif,โ€ she replied with a weary sigh. โ€œNot only is he your brother, but heโ€™s your twin. You guys shared a womb.โ€

โ€œI know, and thatโ€™s what makes it worse,โ€ I bit out, scowling. โ€œHe really screwed me over, Case.โ€

My phone rang then, and I was glad of the reprieve.

Unwilling to talk about Kevin, much less consider forgiving him, I reached into my jeans pocket and smiled when Joeyโ€™s name flashed on the

screen.

โ€œItโ€™s Joe.โ€ Springing to my feet, I grabbed my bag and threw it over my shoulder. โ€œHeโ€™s ready to get picked up.โ€

โ€œFine.โ€ Casey rolled her eyes and waved me off. โ€œAbandon me for your baby daddy.โ€

โ€œEnjoy your date,โ€ I called over my shoulder as I swung her bedroom door open and hurried through her tiny sitting room-kitchen to the flat door. โ€œText me all the details tomorrow.โ€

โ€œWill do.โ€

โ€œAnd use a condom.โ€

โ€œI always do,โ€ she sang out. โ€œIโ€™m not you.โ€

Laughing to myself, I closed the flat door behind me before clicking accept and putting my phone to my ear. โ€œHey, stud.โ€

โ€œAoife,โ€ a young voice came down the line, followed by the sound of sniffling. โ€œAoife, can you come get us?โ€

โ€œOls? Is that you?โ€ Frowning, I readjusted my bag on my shoulder and hurried down the communal stairwell to the ground floor of the building. โ€œAre you okay? You sound like youโ€™re crying? Whereโ€™s Joey?โ€

โ€œYou gots to come get us,โ€ he cried down the line. โ€œPlease, Aoife, please.

You gots to come quick.โ€

โ€œOkay, okay, Iโ€™m on the way right now,โ€ I tried to coax, panic setting in, as I hurried outside to my parked car. โ€œIโ€™m getting into my car right now, Ols. Iโ€™ll be at your house in two minutes.โ€

WHENย Iย PULLEDย up outside Joeyโ€™s house a couple of minutes later, and climbed out of my car, I honestly felt like my heart was trying to beat its way out of my chest.

I didnโ€™t want to go into his house, but the terror in Ollieโ€™s voice had me doing just that. With sweaty palms and a racing pulse, I moved for the front door, feeling my panic climb with every step I took.

โ€œE-fa.โ€ Trip-tumbling off the front doorstep, Sean came barreling towards me with tears streaming down his cheeks. โ€œE-fa.โ€

Oh God.

This was bad.

This was so fucking bad.

โ€œHey, Seany-boo,โ€ I strangled out, hoisting him into my arms, as I kept moving for the door. โ€œAre you okay?โ€

โ€œE-fa.โ€ Sniffling, he burrowed his face in my neck and the feel of his small body trembling caused my heart to seize with dread. โ€œO-ee.โ€

โ€œI called an ambulance,โ€ Tadhg choked out, greeting me at the front door. โ€œI think sheโ€™s dead.โ€

โ€œHe killed her,โ€ Ollie was screaming from the hallway. โ€œDaddy killed Shannon.โ€

Feeling faint with panic, I stumbled through the front door with Sean in my arms, only to be greeted with a scene right out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

There was bloodย everywhere.

โ€œJoey,โ€ I called out, feeling lightheaded, stopping in the kitchen doorway with my eyes clenched shut, almost afraid to see what was beyond the

doorway.

If anything had happened to him, I wouldnโ€™t cope. I couldnโ€™tย thinkย about it.

โ€œJoey!โ€ My voice cracked and I clung tighter to his baby brother. โ€œJoey, please tell me youโ€™re okay!โ€

โ€œMolloy,โ€ I heard him call back, and the sound of his voice gave me the courage I needed to cross the threshold of the doorway and step into the kitchen.

I knew what I was about to witness would be bad, but nothing could have prepared me for the sight of my boyfriend, bloodied to a pulp, slumped on the kitchen floor, cradling the lifeless body of his sister in his arms.

The fact that Teddy was nowhere to be seen gave me little comfort in this moment.

Because I knew that he had been here.

Thisย brutalityย had his name written all over it.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong with her?โ€ I demanded, almost dropping Sean from the fright I got when my eyes absorbed the carnage in front of me. โ€œOh god, why is she bleeding out of her mouth?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s dying,โ€ Tadhg screamed, shaking his motherโ€™s shoulders. His mother who was sitting on the kitchen floor, holding a bag of peas to her daughterโ€™s chest like it was the solution to everything. โ€œHe killed my sister and youโ€™re doing nothing.โ€

โ€œShannon, breathe,โ€ Marie sobbed. โ€œBreathe, Shannon. Breathe, baby.

The ambulance is on the way.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s okay, itโ€™s okay. Shh, Iโ€™ve got you.โ€ Ignoring his mother, my boyfriend continued to whisper in his baby sisterโ€™s ear. โ€œI love you. I love you, Shan. Just hold on for me, okay?โ€

โ€œShannon!โ€

โ€œJesus Christ, Shannon!โ€

โ€œIโ€™m here. Iโ€™m right here, Shan,โ€ Joey continued to cry as he rocked her back and forth in his arms like a mother would a small child.

I couldnโ€™t tell which one of them was bleeding more. I suspected Joey.

But Shannon? Shannon was justย limp.

โ€œIs she breathing?โ€ I jumped into action and asked, setting Sean down, as I hurried over to them.

โ€œI donโ€™t know, I donโ€™t know,โ€ Joey choked out a cry, and it was the worst sound I had ever heard come from his mouth.

He sounded so young. So frightened.

So utterly broken.

โ€œCan you hear me?โ€ he sobbed, holding her bloodied face between his hands. โ€œIโ€™m going to get you out of here, okay? Shannon, can you hear me? Shan? Come on, talk to me.โ€

โ€œGet that away from her,โ€ I warned Marie, roughly tossing the bag of peas away from her daughterโ€™s small frame as I felt for a pulse. โ€œYouโ€™ll send her body into shock!โ€

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Iโ€™m sorry,โ€ their mother cried. โ€œIโ€™m trying to help.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ I sagged in relief when I felt the faint thrum of her pulse against my fingertips. โ€œShe has a heartbeat, but itโ€™s faint.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know where the ambulance is,โ€ Marie cried, dropping her head in her hands. โ€œIt should be here by now.โ€

โ€œStop crying and do something useful,โ€ I ordered, battling down a surge of fury directed entirely towards her. Because this woman. Yeah, I couldnโ€™t even go there with this woman. I would snap. โ€œJust get out of the way, Marie. Go and hold Sean or get a blanket or something.โ€

Waiting until she had moved aside, I shifted closer to my boyfriend, who was still cradling his sisterโ€™s limp body in his arms.

โ€œIโ€™m going to get you help, okay?โ€ Joey was whispering in Shannonโ€™s ear, as he pressed a kiss to her bloody forehead, smearing and mixing the blood on his face with hers. โ€œDonโ€™t leave me.โ€

She stared back at him with a blank, glazed over looked in her eyes, and the horrific gurgling noise that came from her throat, along with clumps of blood when she tried to answer him, was something that would haunt my nightmares for the rest of my life.

โ€œAoife.โ€ Sniffling, he pressed his cheek to his sisterโ€™s face, and mumbled something incoherent to her, before exhaling a ragged breath and kissing her cheek. โ€œGive me your keys.โ€ Sucking in a labored breath, he grunted out a pained snarl before hissing, โ€œFuck waiting for the ambulance. Iโ€™ll take her myself.โ€

โ€œJoey, donโ€™t move her,โ€ I tried to instruct, knowing that neither one of them was in any position to be moved right now. Shannon looked like she

was dying, and Joey didnโ€™t look like he was far behind her. โ€œShe could have internalโ€””

โ€œGive me the fucking keys, baby,โ€ he cut me off and roared, voice breaking, as he stumbled unsteadily to his feet with his sister in his arms. His face was beaten so badly he was barely recognizable in this moment. โ€œHelpย me.โ€

He was moving for the front door before I had a chance to answer him. Before I could beg him to sit down before he passed out.

Panic swirled inside of my stomach, spiraling my heart into a frenzied

flush of fear and dread. As I hurried after him, I knew that it was a bad idea, but went with him anyway because he needed me.

Because for the first time in his life, he had asked for help. Two words.

Help me.

Iโ€™d never heard them come from his mouth before and knew there was a chance Iโ€™d never hear them again, but I had to help him.

I couldnโ€™t not.

Rushing around to the driverโ€™s side door, I swung it open and pulled the seat forward for him to climb inside.

He didnโ€™t. โ€œIโ€™ll drive.โ€

โ€œJoe, no.โ€ I shook my head. โ€œThatโ€™s not a good idea. Iโ€™llโ€”โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll drive,โ€ he choked out. โ€œIโ€™m faster, and I canโ€™tโ€”โ€ his voice broke, and he sucked in a quivering breath. โ€œPlease justย holdย her for me. I need to

not, ah, I need to justโ€ฆโ€ Staggering, he leaned against the side of my car and clung to Shannonโ€™s small body. โ€œMolloy, Iโ€™m really scared.โ€

My heart cracked clean open in my chest.

โ€œItโ€™s okay, Joe, baby. You drive.โ€ Scrambling into the back seat of my car, I held my hands out and gestured for him to pass her to me. โ€œIโ€™ve got Shan. Iโ€™ll keep her safe. I promise.โ€
