Chapter no 31 -โ€Œ โ€ŒYOU HAVE TO TELL H IM

Redeeming 6 (Boys of Tommen, #4)

AOIFE

โ€œITโ€™S BEEN OVER A WEEK,โ€ย Casey exclaimed, sliding onto the stool next to mine at our workstation in Biology on Friday. We were early for class, and, with the exception of a few stragglers at the other end of the lab, we were thankfully alone. โ€œYouย haveย to tell him, Aoif.โ€

Keeping my eyes trained on my pencil case, I didnโ€™t even try to stop my hands from shaking. They hadnโ€™t stopped since my world fell around me. โ€œI know.โ€

โ€œAnd you have to go to the doctor.โ€ โ€œI know.โ€

โ€œI can make the appointment and go with you.โ€ I shook my head. โ€œNo.โ€

She sighed heavily. โ€œAoife.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not ready, okay?โ€ The tremor in my hand increased to the point where I couldnโ€™t open the zip of my pencil case. โ€œIโ€™m just not.โ€

โ€œYou still have options, you know,โ€ she said softly, reaching over to open my pencil case for me. โ€œFuck this country. Thereโ€™s always England. We can get on a boat to Liverpool in the morning, if thatโ€™s what you want. If you want it to be over, then it can be.โ€

โ€œI know,โ€ I whispered, biting down on my lip. โ€œSo, youย haveย thought about it?โ€

โ€œOfย courseย Iโ€™ve thought about it.โ€ Blinking back my tears, I nodded

slowly. โ€œItโ€™s the best thing for both of us. Iโ€™m not stupid, Case, I know itโ€™s whatโ€™s best in the long-term, but itโ€™s too late for that.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not too late,โ€ she was quick to point out. โ€œIf we leave tomorrowโ€”โ€ โ€œNo, no, it is for me, okay.โ€œ Exhaling a ragged breath, I dropped my head

in my hand and buried a sob. โ€œIโ€™ve thought about it and I canโ€™t do it, Case. I

justย canโ€™t, okay?โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ she conceded, tone soothing โ€œOkay, Aoif.โ€

Slowly exhaling, I concentrated on keeping my breathing even, deep and slow, and not giving into the panic clawing at my throat.

โ€œSo, youโ€™re going to go through with this?โ€ she said softly. โ€œYouโ€™re really going to have Joey Lynchโ€™s baby?โ€

Words failed me and I clenched my eyes shut, barely managing to nod my head.

โ€œAnd keep it?โ€ she asked cautiously. โ€œYouโ€™re going to keep it?โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ I squeezed out, hand moving to rest on my stomach, only to think better of it and grip the desk instead. โ€œI guess I am.โ€

โ€œThen you have me,โ€ she said, sliding her arm through mine, as the lab started to fill up with other students. โ€œAnd Iโ€™ve got your back. Always.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re supposed to be going to the cinema tonight,โ€ I told her in a shaky tone, eyes trained on the front of the room. โ€œHe texted me about it earlier.โ€

โ€œThen maybe you guys can have a conversation afterwards,โ€ she offered in a hopeful tone.

โ€œHe wonโ€™t be able to handle it, Case,โ€ I whispered, teeth chattering from nerves. โ€œHeโ€™ll go off the rails again.โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t know that.โ€

โ€œI do.โ€ Knees bopping anxiously, I blinked away another batch of tears. โ€œIt will wreck him. Heโ€™s been doing so well. Better than I could have imagined. And this? This willย ruinย him.โ€

โ€œEither way, he has to be told,โ€ she replied gently. โ€œYou know that, Aoif.โ€

โ€œYeah, I do.โ€ I nodded weakly. โ€œBut my world is already collapsing around me. Can you blame me for wanting to delay that for him?โ€

โ€œWell, donโ€™t delay it too long,โ€ she mumbled. โ€œBecause youโ€™re starting to show.โ€

Those words were all it took for everything inside of my stomach to come rushing back up.

Bolting off my stool, I ran out of class, not stopping until I was on my knees in the girls bathroom, with my head in the bowl and my life in pieces around me.
