Chapter no 138 -โ€Œ โ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€Œโ€ŒI โ€™ LL LOOK AFTER YOU

Redeeming 6 (Boys of Tommen, #4)

JOEY

LATER THAT AFTERNOON,ย the quiet bubble Molloy and I had been cocooned in while we came to terms with the squawking baby we co- created, was well and truly burst.

Barging into the hospital room, laden down with balloons, stuffed animals, and shopping bags came Trish and Casey, followed by a squeamish looking Tony.

โ€œAoife!โ€ Trish and Casey both exclaimed, making a beeline for my girlfriend. โ€œOh, my poor baby.โ€

โ€œHi, Mam. Hi, Case.โ€

โ€œOh, look at your poor face. You look dead only to wash ya.โ€ โ€œWow. Thanks, Mam.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t mind your mam,โ€ Casey was quick to interject. โ€œYouโ€™re every inch the ridey youโ€™ve always been. Minus the big belly.โ€

Having the good sense to get out of the way, I stepped around the girls and moved for Tony.

โ€œI see your fatherโ€™s still here,โ€ Tony noted, eyes locked on the baby in my arms. โ€œThatโ€™s a good start.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m still here,โ€ I confirmed, readjusting my hold on my son. โ€œSay hi to your grandfather, kid.โ€

โ€œBetter not be calling any grandson of mine after the car in Knight Rider,โ€ Tony grumbled, eyes locked on the baby in my arms.

โ€œWash your ears out, Dad,โ€ Molloy called back. โ€œHe said kid, not Kit.โ€ โ€œKid?โ€ Tony blanched. โ€œJesus, thatโ€™s worse.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s not his name,โ€ I chuckled, holding him out for Tony to hold.

โ€œHere.โ€

โ€œAh Jesus, boyo, donโ€™t be giving him to me to hold,โ€ Tony strangled out, eyes locked on my son, as he quickly removed his coat and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt to the elbows. โ€œLook at the size of him.โ€ Moving for the chair next to the bed, he sat down and blew out a shaky breath. โ€œI havenโ€™t held a baby since the twins were small.โ€

โ€œGive him to me,โ€ Trish cut in, making a beeline for us. โ€œI want the first squeeze.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t mind her,โ€ Tony grumbled, gesturing me towards him with both hands. โ€œCome here to me, boyo, and have a cuddle with Grandad.โ€

โ€œOh my god,โ€ Casey crooned, leaning over Tony with a pink digital camera in her hands, as she snapped away like a mad woman. โ€œHeโ€™s absolutely divine, you guys.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s like a small man already,โ€ Trish cooed. โ€œHeโ€™s huge, Aoife.โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ Molloy mumbled, closing her eyes. โ€œI can still feel how huge he was.โ€

With all eyes on the baby, I returned to her side, โ€œYou good?โ€ โ€œMm-hm.โ€ She nodded, eyes still shut. โ€œJust some tightening.โ€

Yeah, they told us that would happen.

Sheโ€™d been given a shit ton of medicine to help her uterus contract.

โ€œSo, mister reformed bad boy,โ€ Casey acknowledged, offering me a wink. โ€œStill behaving yourself?โ€ Waggling her brows, she added, โ€œI hope you havenโ€™t been sneaking any gas and air on the sly.โ€

โ€œCasey!โ€

โ€œNah, Iโ€™m good,โ€ I chuckled, shaking my head. โ€œClean as a whistle.โ€ โ€œThereโ€™s a first time for everything.โ€

โ€œSure is.โ€

โ€œSo, have you two given this little man an actual name yet?โ€ she asked. โ€œOr are we going by kid for the foreseeable.โ€

Molloy looked to me, and I shrugged. โ€œItโ€™s your call, baby.โ€

โ€œWe have a name,โ€ she said, licking her lips. โ€œWe have two, actually.โ€ โ€œOh?โ€ Trishโ€™s eyes lit up. โ€œDo tell.โ€

โ€œJoeโ€™s against it, but I want his middle name to be Joseph,โ€ she told them. โ€œAnd his last name will be Lynch.โ€ Shivering, she added, โ€œWeโ€™re not married, so itโ€™s important to me that everyone knows our son has a father who claimed him.โ€

I swallowed down my protests, refusing point blank to argue with the girl that had been through eight hours of hell to give me a son. Instead, I nodded in support when she looked to me for reassurance.

โ€œAnd his first name?โ€ Trish pushed.

โ€œAnthony,โ€ Molloy said. โ€œHis name is Anthony Joseph Lynch.โ€ Smiling, she added, โ€œAJ for short.โ€

โ€œButย Iโ€™mย Anthony,โ€ Tony squeezed out, turning the color of his daughterโ€™s Opal Corsa.

โ€œYeah, Dad.โ€ Molloy rolled her eyes. โ€œWe know.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve decided to name your son after the man who raised you,โ€ Trish said proudly, giving her daughter a huge smile. โ€œOh, Aoife, thatโ€™s a lovely sentiment.โ€

โ€œActually, we decided to name our son after the man who raised the both of us,โ€ I confirmed quietly. โ€œBecause, letโ€™s face it, the only man I ever had to show me the way was your husband.โ€

Roughly clearing his throat, Tony looked down at AJ and sniffed. โ€œI know exactly what that father of yours is trying to do, boyo,โ€ he told my son, voice thick with emotion. โ€œHeโ€™s trying to butter up old Grandad, isnโ€™t he?โ€ He pressed a kiss to my sonโ€™s forehead and smiled down at him. โ€œWell, you can tell your father that it worked. Yes, you can. Tell your father that I expect his ass at the garage the minute your mother is home and back on her feet.โ€

My heart stopped in my chest. Molloy turned to gape at me.

โ€œBut tell that father of yours that heโ€™s on his last life,โ€ Tony continued to say, speaking to me through my son. โ€œAnd tell your old fella that your grandad has aย Burdizzoย on hand if he gets any notions about giving you a brother or sister before he finishes his apprenticeship and puts a ring on your motherโ€™s finger.โ€

โ€œBurdizzo?โ€ Casey frowned. โ€œThe hell is that?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s what they use on farms to sever a bullโ€™s testicular cord,โ€ I strangled out, thinking back to something Podge once told me. โ€œYou can tell your

grandfather that youโ€™re going to be an only child.โ€

Tony smirked. โ€œYou can tell your father thatโ€™s a wise decision.โ€

โ€œOh my god, Dad,โ€ Molloy grumbled, waving a hand around. โ€œJust kiss and make up already. Everyone knows youโ€™ve been miserable all summer without your little sidekick at the garage.โ€

โ€œWell, it looks like Iโ€™ve a new little sidekick to keep me occupied,โ€ Tony mused, fighting off Trish, who was trying to coax the baby out of his arms.

โ€œYou feel like going to the bathroom yet?โ€ I asked, turning my attention back to Molloy. Theyโ€™d removed her catheter a while ago and encouraged her to get out of bed and use the bathroom, but Molloy hadnโ€™t budged an inch.

โ€œJoe?โ€

โ€œYeah?โ€

Wide-eyed, she gestured for me to come closer so that she could whisper in my ear. โ€œIโ€™m scared to move.โ€ Shivering, she cupped my cheek, and whispered, โ€œIt feels like everything is going to fall out of me.โ€

My heart cracked.

โ€œThat wonโ€™t happen,โ€ I tried to reassure her, tucking her under my arm. โ€œYouโ€™ve just given birth, baby. Itโ€™s going to feel all kinds of fucked up, but I promise nothing bad going to happen to you.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m covered in blood,โ€ she whispered, hand trembling, as she buried her face in my neck. โ€œIโ€™m disgusting.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re fucking beautiful,โ€ I corrected gruffly before turning my attention to her parents. โ€œAoife needs a shower. Can you watch the baby?โ€

โ€œI can take you, Aoife love โ€”โ€

โ€œNo, Iโ€™ll take her,โ€ I cut Trish off and said when I felt her daughterโ€™s body stiffen in protest. โ€œIโ€™ve got this.โ€

โ€œMy legs feel like concrete,โ€ Molloy mumbled as she gingerly climbed out of bed. โ€œNobody look, okay?โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ all three of her visitors dutifully chorused.

โ€œJoe, the bed,โ€ she choked out when she was standing, eyes locked on the dried blood on the sheets.

โ€œItโ€™s grand.โ€

โ€œBut thereโ€™s blood everywhere.โ€ โ€œItโ€™s okay.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s on my nightie and my legs โ€“ ugh, Joe, itโ€™s even on my socks.โ€

โ€œMolloy, I promise you itโ€™sย grand,โ€ I coaxed, hooking one arm around her waist, while taking her elbow with the other. โ€œEvery other woman in this hospital is in the same boat. Youโ€™ve got nothing to be embarrassed about, okay? They see this kind of thing a dozen times a day here.โ€

โ€œButย youย saw it, Joe,โ€ she mumbled, lip wobbling.

โ€œYou think I care about that?โ€ I shook my head. โ€œIโ€™m in fucking awe of you, baby. What you just did? Giving me a son? Christ, Molloy Iโ€™m punching so high right now itโ€™s ridiculous.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€ โ€œReally, really.โ€

โ€œOh, lovely.โ€ Sniffling, she nodded and leaned into my side. โ€œIโ€™m wearing a nappy.โ€

She had those disposable knickers and socks on, and I felt so fucking guilty for doing this to her, because I was under no illusions as to who was responsible for this girl.

Me.

โ€œThatโ€™s it. Nice and slow.โ€ Taking it one step at a time, I helped her into the adjoining bathroom. โ€œThereโ€™s no rush, baby.โ€

โ€œThanks, Joe,โ€ she said when we were safely inside the bathroom and away from prying eyes. โ€œYou can go out now.โ€

Yeah, I wasnโ€™t going anywhere. Not when she looked like she was two seconds away from passing out on the floor. Sheโ€™d been giving two units of blood and an iron transfusion for Christโ€™s sake. She wasnโ€™t fit to be going anywhere on her own, much less showering alone.

โ€œNo, Molloy, stop, okay?โ€ I coaxed, recapturing her arm when she tried to stand on her own. โ€œLet me help you.โ€

โ€œNo.โ€ Her lip wobbled again, and I watched as she tried to blink her tears away, as I helped her into the shower. โ€œI donโ€™t want you to see me like this.โ€

โ€œLike what?โ€

โ€œLike this,โ€ she cried, using her free hand to gesture to her stomach and legs. โ€œItโ€™s disgusting.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not disgusting,โ€ I corrected gruffly. When she made no move to, I reached for the hem of the bloodstained nightdress sheโ€™d been wearing during labor.

โ€œNo.โ€ She shook her head and twisted her body away. โ€œJoe, no. I donโ€™t look like me anymore.โ€

Fuck, that hurt.

Her vulnerability was soul shredding. I was desperate to soothe her.

To make it right.

Her stomach was bruised and deflated, with deep purple stretch marks from where her body had housed and carried my son.

โ€œYouโ€™re so beautiful,โ€ I told her, voice cracking when my stupid fucking emotions threatened to get the better of me.

โ€œNo.โ€ Sniffling, she shook her head, refuting my words.

โ€œYes,โ€ I corrected gruffly, catching ahold of her chin with my hand. โ€œYes.โ€

Green eyes stared up at me, so full of pain and vulnerability. โ€œI missed you so bad.โ€ Clutching the back of my neck, she pulled my face down to hers. โ€œI feel like I died this summer without you and Iโ€™m only coming back to life now.โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€ Resting my brow against hers, I absorbed the moment, the feelings, the weight of my conscience, the future laid out before us. โ€œI know the feeling.โ€

It was her.

It always had been. It always would be.

The girl from the wall.

โ€œIโ€™m going to take care of you,โ€ I told her. โ€œBecause I love you.โ€ She shivered violently when I pressed a kiss to her head. โ€œBecause I think youโ€™re sexy as fuck.โ€ Carefully reaching for the hem of her disposable underwear, I

guided them off. โ€œBecause youโ€™re my queen.โ€ Disposing of everything she was wearing, I switched on the shower and held onto her trembling frame as she stood under the hot spray of water, not giving a damn that I was getting wet in the process. My entire focus was on the girlย stillย looking at me like I hung the moon. โ€œAnd because everything I have, everything I am, I owe to you.โ€

โ€œAoife, love? How are you getting on in there?โ€ Trish called out, moments before barreling into the bathroom.

โ€œMam, get out,โ€ Molloy hissed, giving her mother her back. โ€œGod!โ€ โ€œWhatโ€™s that on your arse?โ€

โ€œNothing.โ€

โ€œIs that a tattoo?โ€ โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œIs that Joeyโ€™sย name?โ€ โ€œMam, get out!โ€

โ€œOh, Jesus, Tony.โ€ โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong, Trish?โ€

โ€œNo wonder that daughter of ours didnโ€™t want me helping her shower. She has that young fellaโ€™s name tattooed on her arse!โ€
