I wake up, turning my head over to the grand clock.
12:43 P.M.
My eyes widen at the clock. I shoot out of bed as my heart drops to
my stomach, looking down at Grayson who was sound asleep next to me. Next to him, my stuffed dog lay.
Had he gone to my house to get it? Holy shit.
I gathered my belongings as I threw a pillow at Grayson, “Prince!” I yell as he lazily opens his eyes.
“What the fuck is the issue, Dove? Get back to bed, it’s too early.” He mumbled before closing his eyes again I run over to his side, slapping him,
“It’s past noon.” I urged as his eyes shot across the sky.
“Fuck!” He yells, getting up and running over to the bathroom.
“I thought you said you knew how this works and that I would get out of here earliest or early enough,” I huff as he stomps out of the bathroom in a rush.
“Shut up, we don’t need your complaining today.” He glowers.
I laugh, “You hate admitting you’re wrong, don’t you?” I fold my arms as he forms a devilish smirk.
“I’m never wrong, this was just a very unfortunate mistake.” I roll my eyes, turning around, “I have no clothes.”
Grayson walks back in with an annoyed look, “We’ll go to your house to get you your clothes, okay give me a damn second.” He shoots out as I fold my arms together, tapping my foot on the floor.
“Can you please stop yelling; we just woke up,” I mutter as he looks down at me.
“Why? It’s what we always do, anyway, isn’t it?” He smiles as he gives a smart-ass comment.
He basically threw every piece of clothing article he owned on the floor of his room.
“I’ll go to my house myself; I don’t need you fucking yelling at me.” I saunter downstairs as he runs after me.
“You think that you can just walk away from me like that?” He yells back as he catches up fast.
“You should be thankful, without me you would probably be in a dump somewhere dead, or worst being raped by fucked up people!”
I turn around, my eyes scorching, “I didn’t ask for your help!” We reached his living room. “Don’t expect me to thank you when I didn’t ask you for anything.”
Grayson’s face looked about done with me, I could see smoke practically coming from his ears.
His eyes were dark, and my face was red from yelling. “My bad for being a good person for once—”
“Ahem.”
We both turn around urgently, my soul left my fucking body, because the view of his entire family in the living room, was nothing pleasant.
Oh fuck.
Grayson stiffened behind me, as I remember that I was only wearing his shirt and his sister’s shorts, he was eyeing me down.
Oh, this really wasn’t good.
I began to shake as he interlocked my hand with his, my anxiety going down in an instant.
“Grayson.” His father stood up, his mother’s gaze on us as I swallowed. “Father…” He utters without emotion.
His siblings were right behind his parents.
“Hello, dear my name is Sara.” His mother’s hand shoots up to shake mine before Mr. Prince walks in front of her.
“Dove, this is my mother, Sara.” Grayson adds as Sara frowns slightly. Grayson’s father looked at me like I was the absolute scum of the Earth,
like I wasn’t allowed to even be near him.
“Grayson. May I please have a word with you in private?” He seethes like a snake; goosebumps surround my body.
I swallow as Grayson looks at me, almost like he wants to tell me he didn’t want to leave me all alone but didn’t. He just looks straight into his father’s eyes, following him over to a large room that looked like his office.
Sara follows them.
I couldn’t help but walk the rest of the way down, standing over by the entrance, my hands also couldn’t help but shake without Grayson being next to me.
I didn’t want to eavesdrop but, the voice of Grayson’s father practically echoed through the entirety of the mansion.
“Would you like to explain why you have a Cassian in our home, let alone in your room? ” He said it with venom.
“Are you serious, Grayson? Being seen with the enemy?!” I can infer that it was his brother, Easton shouting.
I swallow down, I never really predicted that they hated me this much, I get they had problems with my father, but I have never had interactions with any of them.
It was a two-way street, I guess.
“You could’ve picked any girl to settle down with, but you pick a motherfucking Cassian!?!” His father seethes as I jolt at my last name.
Excuse me?
Grayson hasn’t said much in the conversation which worried me, to the fact that he couldn’t keep his mouth closed when he had argued… which was every day.
“This better not be one of your fucking games Grayson-”
“I don’t want to fucking talk about this with you.” I hear the door slam as I straighten, I turn around as Grayson’s dead eyes stare into mine.
Although his father and the rest of his family ran out with Grayson.
As he reached the corner, his eyes looked like mischief and trouble mixed together, I was scared of what he was about to say, “This isn’t a game. She’s, my girlfriend. ”
WHAT. THE. FUCK.
My eyes widened, complete fear folded within my face, absolute atrocity.
My eyes directly over to his father, his face already to explode before his wife pulled him in for a sidebar chat.
I look up at Grayson who almost can’t believe he said it too. Utter terror.
“What are you doing Prince?” I whisper harshly as he grips my hand harder.
“I’m not sure.” He replies fast and quietly, his face holding the promise of uncertainty. It wasn’t a common expression Grayson would have since he was a know it all and an ass wipe.
His siblings looked like they had all swallowed a lemon and saw a monster.
I wonder how I looked right now. I’m pretty sure I look utterly terrified, like a pale ghost.
I couldn’t even bring myself to say anything. Grayson had a plan in his head somewhere and if I ruined it for him, I wouldn’t hear the end of it.
Which I didn’t even care about… So why am I staying quiet? Safe to say… I panicked.
His father walks back up, his eyes serene.
Before he walks away completely, his wife coughs, as if she was forcing him to do something.
I swallow, feeling my hands curl into fists.
“I would like to have you for dinner maybe on Friday?” He mutters as I almost choke on my own saliva.
Grayson’s face looked gob smacked. “I’m sure she’s busy—” Grayson starts.
His mother pauses, “Well, I was very excited to see her have dinner with us—” She probes as I smile thinly.
Grayson’s face died, almost like he was upset that he was once again disappointing his father if I had said no.
And it was not going to be on my watch, I let Grayson’s face fall.
I smiled. “Of course, I would love to have dinner.” I voiced as he changed his face to a stern look, his eyes back to his son’s.
I wasn’t sure myself why I said yes to the invitation, my heart was practically exploding.
Grayson tensed, but I rubbed my thumb on his palm, easing stress, almost like it was an instinct.
“This is really the first time I’ve seen you serious about something, and as the man who will be inheriting my business, I want to trust that you can be serious about certain matters.” His father fixes his suit.
“Whether it is something I disapprove of.” He coughs out.
I flinch, my heart rate is basically up to fucking Mount Rushmore. “ I am proud of you.”
It was almost fucking painful to hear his father say it.
Grayson swallowed; I could feel him shake like his whole persona was getting broken.
It was odd to see him this way. I had never seen him so off guard. So terrified, so down.
So not himself.
Did his father not know how serious Grayson was on a regular basis? It was almost like he never showed any emotion at school or even at hockey. During games, he would get run over and yet he still came out on the top.
I had only really seen him… serious.
“Will your father be attending the dinner?” Shock waves send fireworks through my body as I look at Grayson.
My face was alarmed. “I’m not sure, sir… he is pretty busy.” I let out as his face was stricken.
“You can call me, Silas.” He says sternly as I nod.
“I’m sure your workaholic father can take an evening off for his only daughter.” He smiled, but I could tell it was a fake grin.
“I would love to have a chat with an old friend.” He winks.
They were far from friends.
“I might even have my people contact him!” Grayson’s father smiled as I felt my heart drop.
“That’s great!” I coughed as Grayson gave me a look of utter disbelief.
He was going to hear a fucking earful.
“Oh, Grayson! I am so happy for you!” His mother smiled, walking over to us with open arms, and hugging us together. I send him a “fuck you” look.
She lets go, “We actually have to, get to our morning classes… and I’m taking her out for lunch… It’s her birthday.” Grayson mentions as I turn over to him.
“We are?!” I mistakenly let out as his eyes widened with mine. “Well, it was supposed to be a surprise, Dove.”
I laugh, “Oh!”
His little sister runs over to me, “Does this mean I have a sister now?!” She smiles with flying colors. I let her hug me.
“Well, of course.” I smile back.
“Rhylee.” Grayson coughs out, “We really have to go.” He probes as I start to make my way over to the front door, Grayson following.
“I’ll see you on Friday.” I grin over, waving, “Thank you so much for having me over.” Grayson pushes me out of the door, slamming it closed.
I don’t even look behind me as I feel my anger build from inside me, I speed walk over to my house before he catches up to me. I turn around.
“I cannot fucking believe you right now, Prince.” I seethe out as he lets go of my arm.
“Look, I am so sorry,” He lets out as I look at him with irritation.
“Your ‘sorry’ isn’t giving me satisfaction right now!” I fold my arms in front of me as he sighs.
“You said your parents weren’t going to be home.” “They weren’t!” He answers.
“And your siblings too?!?!” I yell as he flinches, “Well…”
“Un-fucking-believable!” I scream at him as he knits his eyebrows as well as his eyes.
“What the fuck do you want me to do then, Cassian!” He threw his hands up, as I gave him a blank look.
“Go back in there and tell them you were lying!” I argue as he laughs. “Over my dead body.”
I run my hand over my hair, “Why?” I fume as he covers his face with his hands in frustration.
“I need your help okay!” He screams out as I shut my mouth. “Why?” I sigh.
Grayson looked defeated like he was embarrassed.
“Because this is a great opportunity to show my father that I can be serious, that I can get my ex back, showing her that I can handle another relationship.” He lets out with a shaky voice.
“You are lying to them!” I mused.
“I want to prove it to myself too, Dove.” He admitted as I bit my lip.
“Prince, you are nothing but serious,” I assured him as he shook his head, disagreeing.
“That’s not enough.” He dictated. I felt my heart tighten.
I hated Grayson. I hated him and I loathed him. But the way he looked at me now was full of vulnerability.
He was serious.
“What do I need to do?” I closed my eyes, not believing the fact that I had just agreed to this.
