I SPENT THE EVENING AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY LOOKING at
microfilms of the El Paso Times. I was looking for an article on my brother. But I didn’t even know if I had the right year and I gave up after about an hour and a half. There had to be a better way of doing this kind of research.
I thought of writing Dante a letter. Instead, I found an art book on the work of Edward Hopper. Dante was right about Nighthawks. It was a great painting. And it was true, what Hopper was saying. I felt as if I were looking in a mirror. But it didn’t break my heart.
