The Turin International Book Fair announces the sixth edition of From Italian to the World, an initiative born to support the translation of Italian literature abroad and to foster networking among translators from around the globe. It will take place on Friday, November 20, starting at 2:30 PM. The symposium offers a dedicated showcase of books to discover or rediscover.
The central value of translators
“The Fair has always acknowledged the central value of those who translate, both culturally and economically.” As early as 2001, the event was among the first in Europe to dedicate a professional space to those who enable readers to access foreign literatures: The Invisible Author. Curated by Ilide Carmignani, this section celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2025 (we discussed it here), affirming itself as a reference gathering for publishing professionals.
“The From Italian to the World conference was created to guide foreign translators toward books that, as Goethe long ago hoped, deserve to enter the realm of Weltliteratur,” comments the curator Ilide Carmignani, and adds: “Too often, in fact, a significant portion of our literary production remains confined within the borders of our language simply because it is distant from commercial logics. This year we have invited some finalists and winners of the most prestigious Italian literary prizes to share their ‘translation tips.’ The aim is to foster an equal dialogue with other literatures and to allow the Italian book to duly occupy its place in world culture.”
The 2026 edition of the conference will feature the participation of Andrea Bajani, Annalena Benini, Ilide Carmignani, Marco Corsi, Alba Donati, Roberta Fabbri, Marcello Fois, Carmen Gallo, Lorenza Honorati, Francesca Novajra, Sara Marconi, Matteo Nucci, Vincenzo Ostuni, Valeria Parrella, Rossella Postorino, Antonio Riccardi, Vanni Santoni, Chiara Valerio, Maddalena Vaglio Tanet, and Silvia Vecchini.
