There is a word that identifies the fastest-growing narrative genre in the publishing market of recent years, not only in Italy: romance.
To be fair, romance novels, with their love stories, have always existed, but also thanks to online users on platforms like TikTok, in recent years they have received a significant push, as we have repeatedly told, and today they captivate audiences from generations of different ages.
Enemies to lovers, fake dating, forced proximity, slow burn, friends to lovers, grumpy x sunshine… are just some of the “tropes,” the recurring dynamics of romance, a genre that has managed to reach such a broad audience in part thanks to the variety of shades it offers.
From their side, streaming platforms, and in particular Amazon Prime Video, have sensed the phenomenon and seized the opportunity: bringing to the screen the major romance hits of these years, turning them into films or TV series. In 2026 we can name at least 9 productions headed in this direction.

Off Campus
In a June article we reflected on the growing presence on screen of the green flag guys, who, not fearing to show their vulnerabilities, favor clear communication, emotional maturity, and respect.
Garrett Graham, the protagonist of the Off Campus series by Elle Kennedy—comprising 5 books published in Italy by Newton Compton in translations by Federico Cenciotti, Stefano Michetti, Alice Crocella, Laura Mastroddi and Emanuele Boccianti—embodies this model perfectly, engaging a community that got to know him also through the Prime Video series.
The on-screen cast features Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli and, starting from the fake dating trope, it celebrates healthy behaviors and attentiveness to the other’s needs.
One Year After Another
The summer, a family restaurant, a lakeside house, and the first crush. These are the ingredients that, blended together, give life to One Year After Another, a Prime Video series adapted from the novel by Carley Fortune One Summer After Another (published in Italy by Newton Compton in Stefania Cherchi’s translation). Starring are Sadie Soderall and Matt Cornett.
Years have passed since their story, set in the most delicate age: now adults, Percy and Sam return to the place where they spent their summers as teens. The book and series carry the sparkling gentleness of first love and the mature awareness that loving someone doesn’t mean not being afraid or making mistakes, but rather taking responsibility for one’s actions and learning from errors.

And while the two previously mentioned series center on green-flag characters, here we find titles with red flag characters: Love Me Love Me, Stefania S.’s novel released in 2023 with Sperling & Kupfer after Wattpad success, made its way to Prime Video in February of this year as a film following the enemies to lovers and grumpy x sunshine tropes.

We close this survey with a Spanish production, once again signed by Prime Video. Marfil – The Opposites is adapted from the eponymous novel by the already mentioned Mercedes Ron, published in Italy with Salani in Elena Rolla’s translation, and brings to the screen Ester Expósito and Hugo Diego Garcia in the lead roles.
It is the bodyguard trope that holds the narrative together: in Marfil, daughter of a very powerful man, she is assigned a bodyguard after a kidnapping in central New York. The presence of the man unsettles her, but resisting his charm seems the hardest challenge of all…
