Chapter 7

Releasing 10 (Boys of Tommen, #6)

โ€œHAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOย LIZZIE, happy birthday to you.โ€

My parents and Caoimhe all huddled around me, smiling and singing birthday songs.

It made me feel happy.

I liked it.

Daddy was even smiling as he took pictures on his camera.

โ€œBlow out your candles,โ€ Mammy said, pointing to the pink birthday cake in front of me. โ€œAnd make a wish, sweetheart.โ€

Leaning forward, I took a big breath and blew it out as hard as I could.

When the flames on the candles went out, they all cheered.

For me.

I smiled happily.

โ€œDoes she even know itโ€™s her birthday?โ€ Caoimhe asked then, and it made me cross. Of course I did. I had a birthday cake, didnโ€™t I? She laughed before adding, โ€œShe probably doesnโ€™t even know what age sheโ€™s turning.โ€

Planting my hands on my hips, I turned to my sister and glared. โ€œFour.โ€

Caoimheโ€™s eyes widened in surprise. โ€œWhat did you just say?โ€

โ€œFour,โ€ I repeated, still cross with her. โ€œIโ€™m not silly.โ€ I pointed to the candles on my cake. โ€œOne, two, three, four.โ€

Now, Mammy and Daddy were looking at me with big, wide eyes.

โ€œDid she justโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYes, she definitely did.โ€

โ€œOh my God.โ€

โ€œShe can talk.โ€

โ€œNever mind talking. She can count.โ€

โ€œSay something else,โ€ Caoimhe commanded, sounding excited. โ€œCome on, Liz, tell us something else.โ€

I frowned at her. โ€œLike what?โ€

โ€œOh my God!โ€ Caoimhe squealed, jumping from foot to foot as she clapped her hands. โ€œShe actually answered me!โ€

I always answered her, but she just couldnโ€™t hear me.

None of them could.

โ€œAm I talking out loud?โ€ I asked, confused. โ€œYou can hear me?โ€

All three of them nodded.

They looked so happy.

They were smiling at me.

โ€œWhatโ€™s my name?โ€ my sister asked, still bouncing.

โ€œCaoimhe Young.โ€

โ€œOh my God,โ€ she cried out, clapping her hands again. โ€œWhatโ€™s your name?โ€

โ€œLizzie Young.โ€

My sister yelped excitedly before pointing at our parents. โ€œAnd who are they?โ€

โ€œMammy and Daddy,โ€ I replied, frowning when I saw they were both crying. โ€œAre you sad?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Daddy choked out, throwing his arms around me. โ€œWeโ€™re happy.โ€
