Redeeming 6 (Boys of Tommen, #4)

JOEY

โ€œGIVE ME A SONG, JOE.โ€

โ€œHm?โ€

โ€œA song.โ€

It was a little after ten o clock, we were holed up in her room keeping a low profile from Tony, who was banging around downstairs like a bear with a sore head, and Molloy had somehow managed to rope me into watching another horror movie from her collection. Tonightโ€™s chosen number wasย Final Destination 2.

Completely fucking reeling from the events of the last twenty-four hours, I was doing everything I could to take the pressure off my girlfriend.

To make her feel like she wasnโ€™t in this alone.

Because she might be the one currently housing our baby, but the responsibility of parenthood was coming for both of us.

Just thinking about it caused my heart to catapult around in my chest. The fuck was I going to do?

I had a girl and a baby to look after. But I still had Shannon and the boys.

And Mam.

Jesus Christ.

โ€œWhat do you mean give you a song?โ€ I asked, slotting another pillow behind me to take the pressure off my back and ease the pain coursing through my flesh. โ€œI donโ€™t sing, baby.โ€

โ€œYou know thatโ€™s not what I mean,โ€ she replied, nestling between my legs, with her back to my chest. โ€œGive me a song for us.โ€

โ€œFor us,โ€ I repeated, mulling it over, as I hooked an arm around her middle and drew her body closer to mine.

โ€œYeah, for us.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t have a song.โ€

โ€œWell, find one because I need a song.โ€

โ€œFine.โ€ Dropping my hand to rest on her stomach, I said, โ€œMadonna.โ€ โ€œLike a virgin?โ€

โ€œPapa donโ€™t preach.โ€

She snorted. โ€œNice.โ€ I smirked. โ€œThanks.โ€

โ€œFor real, though.โ€ Breaking free from my hold, she twisted around until she was straddling my lap. โ€œGive me something real.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re putting me on the spot here.โ€

โ€œSo?โ€ Leaning in close, she nuzzled my nose with hers. โ€œYouโ€™re excellent under pressure.โ€

Sighing heavily, I loosely clasped her waist. โ€œMolloy.โ€ โ€œPlease…โ€

โ€œFine.โ€ Shaking my head, I racked my brain for something โ€“ anything โ€“ to appease the girl, before finally coming up with, โ€œDivine Inspirationโ€™sย The Way.โ€

โ€œFrom the rave in Kerry?โ€ Recognition flashed in her green eyes, and she beamed at me. โ€œYou remember that?โ€

โ€œThat surprises you?โ€

โ€œNo, I justโ€ฆโ€ Shaking her head, she scrunched her nose up before admitting, โ€œItโ€™s just that you were pretty buzzed that night.โ€

I was worse than buzzed that night. I was out of my fucking mind.

โ€œI can still remember the way you looked when you were dancing in that

field, with your yellow wellies and tiny denim shorts,โ€ I heard myself say, remembering the moment clearly. The clearest of my memories involved nights with her. The only nights I ever wanted to remember were the ones I spent with her. โ€œYou had that little bra top thingy on, your tits were spilling out,โ€ I continued to tell her, needing her to know that she was forever on my mind. โ€œThe cheeks of your ass were on full display, and I swear to Christ, I was driven half mental from watching you.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€

โ€œReally, really,โ€ I confirmed, mirroring her smile.

โ€œAnd youย danced,โ€ she teased, snaking a hand out to playfully pinched my good cheek. โ€œThe boy who refuses to dance was throwing shapes like a raver.โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t have much of a choice, did I?โ€ I shot back. โ€œIt was safer to join the madness. You had that neon body paint all over you โ€“โ€

โ€œOh my god, the body paint!โ€ she squealed out a laugh. โ€œSo had you.โ€

Yeah, because she caked me in it. โ€œAnd every time the strobe lights flashed around us, you lit up like a firework.โ€

โ€œI did?โ€

โ€œYeah, Molloy.โ€ Releasing a contented breath, I reached a hand up and tucked her hair behind her ear. โ€œI was high that night, but you sent me soaring.โ€

โ€œSmooth.โ€

โ€œNot smooth, just honest.โ€

โ€œThat was an epic summer, Joe. Wrapped up in you.โ€ Her eyes lingered on mine for a long moment before she released a wistful sigh. โ€œI guess all thatโ€™s behind me now, huh?โ€

โ€œNo, Molloy.โ€ My heart gunned in my chest, twisting and morphing between sorrow and guilt. โ€œWeโ€™ll do it again.โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ she replied, but it was a half-hearted mumble. โ€œWith a baby on my hip.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ll do it again,โ€ I repeated, catching her chin with my hand and forcing her to look at me.

โ€œYeah?โ€ she whispered, tone hopeful.

โ€œYeah,โ€ I confirmed gruffly. โ€œAnd youโ€™ll be just as reckless.โ€ Leaning in, I brushed a kiss to her lips. โ€œAnd Iโ€™ll be slightly less high.โ€
