When I finished my morning run, I was pleasantly surprised to have Britt running along side me. I had pulled back a little so that she could keep pace but it was worth it to see how pleased she was with herself at the end of it.
โI know you held backโ she huffed and she bent over to brace her hands on her knees. My three came in a few minutes after us. I had a feeling that even if they were quicker than me, they wouldnโt run ahead. They would always take up the same position and guard my back. In fact, I had a feeling I wasnโt the only one who had held back a bit today.
โI donโt know what youโre talking about!โ I said feigning surprise as I dropped down onto the grass to wait for the others to catch up with us. Everyone was running the full fifteen miles now but there were a few that were still struggling with the last lap.
โOkaaaay, if youโre going to keep to that story you might need to at least pretend to be slightly winded, or maybe splash some water on your face so you can pretend that itโs sweat.โ Britt said collapsing next to me.
I couldnโt help but laugh. She was right. I felt like I could go for another lap. It wasnโt just my magic that was feeling stronger. I could feel it in my body as well. This place was changing me. Liam jogged over to the steps and collected water bottles for the group before coming back and passing them all round. I smiled up at him as he passed me mine. He was always so considerate and I was glad that he had included Britt in our group as well. I always struggled making friends and it was nice to have a female friend around that I could talk to. The rest of the group arrived within five minutes of us and I congratulated every one of the them. They were all starting to
get faster. I suppose magic and being a supernatural had its perks when it came to physical training.
โOkay, everyone go eat, get changed, do whatever it is that you do in the next hour. Iโll see you in the gym. Donโt be late, weโve got a big announcement coming.โ I said grabbing my bottle from the grass and standing. Some of the girls stood with me and headed inside but a few opted for laying on the ground for a bit longer.
After grabbing a quick breakfast sandwich and a smoothie I headed to the gym to meet up with Caleb. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Harmony and Echo from my group were already there keeping warm and doing some stretches. I went into Calebโs office where he was looking over some papers while he waited for the class to arrive. I stuck my head through the door not wanting to intrude and knocked on the doorframe so he would look up. โGot a minute?โ I asked.
โSureโ he said pointed to the chair for me to sit down.
โIโm good standingโ I said keeping my position leaning against the doorframe. โI wanted to ask your opinion about opening up the competition for spectators.โ
Caleb raised his eyebrows โWhat makes you ask about that?โ
โSome students apparently talking smack about my girls in the library the other day.โ I answered honestly. โBut also, if weโre going to make changes then we need to make waves and I think that to do that we need to get the whole school involved.โ
โI suppose that makes sense but I donโt think that the headmaster will go for itโ He answered honestly.
โAnd I also want to gage their reactions.โ I explained deciding to let him know everything Iโd been thinking.
โAgain, why?โ He asked sitting back in his chair to give me his full attention.
โI want to train an Elite squad.โ I shrugged.
โYouโve got my attention,โ he said leaning forward โbut Iโm struggling to see how the two go together.โ
โI want to see who in the crowd is too arrogant for an invite and who looks impressed enough to be considered.โ
โAssuming that we even let you have an Elite squad to train.โ Caleb argued. โYouโre going to let me have an Elite squadโ I smiled.
โProbablyโ he shrugged. He stood from his desk and looked past me out the door. I turned and saw that most of the class had arrived while we were talking. โGo join your group, Iโm going to call the headmaster.โ
I strode over to the group with a smile on my face. โWhatโs got you all happy and gleefulโ Britt asked looking at my suspiciously. โIf I didnโt already know that you were such a badass, I would have sworn I just saw you skip a little bit.โ
โOh you know, just making waves and exacting social change.โ I answered mysteriously.
โWhy do I feel like that is going to end badly for us?โ Sykes said sliding an arm around my shoulders and kissing the top of my head.
Caleb came out of his office and nodded at me. I turned back to my group with an evil grin on my face. โItโs show time!โ I said slipping out from under Sykesโ arm and striding over to meet Caleb so we could address the group together. Halfway there I turned around keeping my stride walking backwards, locked eyes with Britt and raised one fist in the arm shouting โSmash the patriarchy!โ Britt burst out into laughter and when I turned back to face Caleb he just rolled his eyes at me but I caught one corner of his mouth twitch upwards.
โEveryone gather around, we have something to discuss.โ Caleb shouted and the class dropped to the ground around him. Calebโs group were just lounging lazily on the floor whilst mine hung at the back and carried on stretching. โFor fucks sake.โ Caleb grumbled under his breath. โRight, the competition between the two fighting teams is being moved up to this Friday.โ Caleb announced. Everyone burst out into excited chatter. I caught a couple of disparaging remarks coming from Calebโs team and even one โno point delaying the inevitableโ. Everyone else heard it as well and half of my group just burst out laughing. โSettle down!โ Caleb raised him voice. โThatโs not the only news.โ It took a few seconds for everyone to gather back their self control before Caleb would continue. โAs you know the reason for the two fighting teams was to try out a new training style. It would seem that the whole school has heard of whatโs happening and is waiting to find out the result. As such the headmaster and I have decided to open the competition up for spectators. That means that on Friday morning, all of the other classes are going to be cancelled and the rest of the school will be joining us to see which group will be acknowledged as the superior fighters.โ At that the chatter from the class basically exploded. There would be no training for Calebโs group today. Caleb muttered another โfor fucks sakeโ and I patted him on the shoulder in sympathy as I strode away back to the far side of the gym which my group had taken over for the training sessions. They all got up and followed me. There was some chatter but once we all settled in our usual area it quieted down as they looked at me expectantly.
โThoughtsโ I asked them. I wasnโt sure if they would be worried about having the whole school watching.
โItโs going to be terribly embarrassing for them when we crush them in front of the whole schoolโ Britt said.
I couldnโt help but smile. โI get that you might be a bit nervous at the thought of everyone watching but you really do have nothing to worry about. Youโve seen the way that they fight, the way that they organise. The competition is for nine of them to go against the nine of you. At this stage I think the nine of you could take the rest of the entire class but we donโt want to embarrass them too much.โ That set a few chuckles running around the group. โMoving forward we still have the run in the mornings, conditioning training today and two sparring session before the competition. I think we should cut the run on Friday morning down to just five miles, that way youโll be warmed up but you wonโt be too tired. For now, though, got off your asses, I want fifteen squats, fifteen sit ups, fifteen push ups then rinse and repeat people.โ Everyone jumped to their feet, spread out and started. I wandered back across the gym to Caleb who was looking forlornly at his group that had started to shuffle laps around the gym. You really couldnโt call it running.
โI just donโt get what it is with this group. The last two years have taken to training so much better but this lot just donโt give a shit and I have no idea how to motivate them.โ He looked at me stood as his side. โYou must think Iโm really shit at my job.โ He sighed.
โNah, not even I could whip this lot into shape. Anyway, Iโve heard that the third years are nearly at my level.โ I said.
โWho told you that?โ He asked surprised.
โYou did.โ I laughed.
โAh right, I donโt remember that.โ He said rubbing the back of his neck. โDonโt get me wrong they are a lot further ahead than this group but no one at this school, and I think I might even be including myself in this as well, is anywhere near your level Aria.โ
โYou want to talk about it?โ I asked, sensing that there was something else going on.
โMaybe later, in fact, you still up to looking over the training schedule after this.โ
โSure. You know it might be a bit unfair measuring them up against me.โ I admitted. โThe headmaster thinks I have some kind of god magic.โ I peered at him out of the side of my eye to see how he would react to this. He just nodded.
โHe did mention something about that. Heโs totally on board with letting the school watch the competition by the way, I didnโt even have to argue it with him. Apparently, he had heard some of the students talking about it and he thinks that they could do with having an example made of them.โ
โOn one hand I feel like thatโs a bit harsh but on the other hand I totally agree with him.โ I thought about it for a moment. โItโs totally conflicting.โ
Caleb chuckled and it was nice to hear him a bit more like his normal self. He strode back over to his group to set them up into pairs to start sparring and I joined my own group to set up some circuits for them to work through for the next hour. By the time that the class was over the other team were stumbling out of the room and mine looked ready to go another ten rounds. Britt was even hopping up and down on the spot drivelling on about something that was clearly exciting her. I didnโt have the time for it. I might
only have three classes this semester but it was on three subjects I came into knowing nothing about. I was behind when I started and I felt like I had to do twice the reading to just keep up with everyone else. I waved goodbye to the girls and gave my guys a kiss goodbye before heading to Calebโs office. He was already sunk down in the chair at his desk looking like the weight of the world was trying to crush him.
โSo, whatโs up?โ I asked slinking into the other chair. The run this morning hadnโt quite quelled the fire in my veins and training everyone else meant that I wasnโt getting enough of a workout in myself. Couple that with the fact that my magic seemed to be growing everyday and I was starting to seriously worry that I may actually explode at some point in the not so distant future.
โI suck at my job, thatโs what.โ Caleb grunted pulling two bottles of water out of his desk and throwing one across to me. I caught it before twisting the top off and taking a sip. โYouโve had three weeks training that group and they are nearly on par with the third year group. This first year group might be lax but the second years really do but the effort in and yet yours are surpassing them already.โ
โYeah itโs not possible.โ I commented. I had actually had the exact same thought myself.
โWell clearly it is because itโs happening. We need to completely re-write the training scheme. If you didnโt have your own classes Iโd be asking you to come on as a full time trainer.โ He said shifting through the piles of paper on his desk. He was starting to get a slight gleam of mania in his eye and it was worrying me. I didnโt deal well with other peopleโs crazy. It seemed to rub up against my own crazy and make it explode out of me in unexpected ways.
โNo, Iโm being serious, it actually isnโt possible.โ I said putting my feet up on his desk and then quickly removing them when Calebโs crazy started to
look like it was about to leak out his eyeballs. โIt took me about six months to get to the level that they are at and I catch onto this stuff crazy quick. Granted, I was like twelve at the time but still, there is no way that they should be at the level that they are at. I show them a move once and they have it down pat. No problems at all. Itโs even got to the point where I show one of them a move and then they can demonstrate it to another and they do it just as well. Something shifty is going on here.โ
โIt must be something to do with your magic.โ Caleb said sitting up. He actually looked a little relieved and I felt bad that he had been feeling like this for the last couple of weeks. I wasnโt sure if he was really close to anyone. He seemed kind of like an outsider with the rest of the teachers and then there was the whole problem with the teacher student relationship that kept him at a distance from everyone else.
โNah, Iโve taught defence skills to people before and trust me they did not get a hold of it like this group does.โ I laughed thinking of the kids in the self defence class that I had taught at Alfieโs gym. It hurt my heart a little thinking about them. I hope someone else had taken up teaching the class for them. I missed the little shits more than I thought I ever would.
โYou did say that your magic has increased since you got here.โ Caleb pointed out.
โIncreased is one way to think about it. Turned into a raging inferno is another.โ I joked trying to keep the look of strain from my face. I was seriously starting to worry that I was going to become one of those kids off the news that went on a rampage.
โAre you okay?โ Caleb asked, seeing right through me. โIf you need to talk?โ
โNah, Iโve got a handle on it.โ I shrugged. Hopefully. โBack to the issue at hand, donโt beat yourself up something weird is definitely going on with my group. I know we said that we would only train on hand to hand with them but Iโve actually introduced some weapon work with them. Only to the extent of how not to stab yourself if you happen to be holding something stabby while punching someone.โ
โThatโs not a problem. How are they handling them?โ
โSurprisingly well. In fact, tonight Iโm going to see about finding which weapon they hold an affinity with if you want to join us.โ I offered.
โIโd actually like that. If you donโt mind me intruding.โ He edged.
โItโs not an intrusion if you are invited Caleb.โ I smiled at him. I think I could actually have a friend in Caleb. โWhich is yours?โ I asked.
โMy what? Weapon?โ he asked. When I nodded he just smiled and laughed. โIโm a wolf, I donโt fight with weapons.โ He shrugged.
โWhat? Then why do you train the shifter students with weapons?โ
โEveryone gets a brief introduction to the most commonly used weapons. You never know whatโs going to happen in a fight. If you can handle a weapon it makes it easy to predict how someone will use it against you.โ He explained.
โMakes sense. Donโt you ever find that you canโt rely on the shift?โ I asked. โItโs not failed me yet.โ He laughed.
โWhat if you end up somewhere where you canโt turn into a wolf, like the middle of the human realm.โ I put out there. It seemed strange to me that they would rely on just one form of fighting. โYou should join us. Choose your own weapon. Train with us Caleb. You look like you could do with a bit of fun. Donโt get me wrong the crazy disorganisation thing youโve got going on is clearly keeping you busy but maybe you need a new hobby.โ I said looking round at the chaos that was his office. There were papers on every surface and it looked like now that he was running out of surface space he had taken to sticking some to the walls.
โYeah,โ he said looking around at the room with a cringe, โI may have got a little carried away with the whole training crisis Iโve been having.โ
โJust a bitโ I laughed. โCome on, let me pick you a new life partner that has sharp pointy edges.โ
โFine,โ he huffed but I could see through his fake annoyance. He was as giddy as a schoolgirl. โHow do we do this anyway.โ
โWell, first you need to show me where you keep all the fun toys around here.โ I clapped my hands together and rubbed them together gleefully. There was nothing better than a nice orderly weapons safe.
โCome on then.โ He said standing up and leading me out of the office. A door in the corner of the gym which I had assumed led to some kind of cleaning cupboard was in fact a door to my worst nightmare.
โThis is โฆ this is fucking wrong. How could someone do this?โ I was genuinely distressed by the sight in front of me. Swords were just stood up in a barrel type container of all things. There was a pile of bows in the corner with some quivers knocked over next to them. What looked like a bag of daggers. Basically, there were weapons shoved in piles, some were
covered in dust, others clearly hadnโt been cleaned in what looked like forever.
โYeah, itโs got a bit disorganised in here.โ Caleb said looking around and rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly with one hand.
โDis-disorganisedโ I spluttered. โI have no words for what this is. How, just how?โ
โWe donโt really use them very much and the students just grab something when they need it and then put it back. If Iโm honest I havenโt been in here for ages.โ He said pushing a stray sword next to his feet across the floor with one foot.
โStop it!โ I said slapping his arm with the back of my hand and scooping up the poor neglected sword from the floor. โThey deserve more respect than this.โ I said running the blade over one trouser leg to wipe the dust off. โRight, come on, get them all out in to the gym.โ I said stooping down and picking up a bucket of daggers.
โWhat? You canโt take these all out into the gym Iโve got a training session with the second year students in half an hour.โ
โGood, weโre going to need some extra hands to get this mess sorted out.โ I looked around with my hands on my hips briefly putting together an action plan. โI am very disappointed in you right now Mr โฆ erm โฆ Caleb.โ Coming up at a loss for his last name.
It took us the full half an hour just to get all the weapons out of the room and into the gym. We were organising them into piles when the second year students started to filter through into the gym.
โOkay guys, change of plans for the lesson today.โ Caleb said to the students waving them over.
โDo we get to start weapons training?โ One tall guy said from the back peering down at the weapons in interest. I made a note of his face for future reference. If the headmaster would let me expand my Elite training experiment then I wanted to get a read on some of the older students that might show some potential.
โYou could say that.โ Caleb said grinning. โIt seems like the weapons store got in a bit of a mess and we need to get it squared away before we can start weapons training. In exchange for your assistance this lesson in getting this sorted, Aria here has agreed to assist with advanced weapons training for anyone that wants to take their training in that direction.โ
โWhat makes her think that she can teach us anything sheโs only a first year?โ a heard a voice call from the back of the crowd.
โDude, thatโs the chick thatโs training that group of first years. The ones that are taking part in the competition on Friday.โ
โWhich group? The ones that are going to get their asses handed to them by the rest of the class.โ I heard someone laugh.
โThose would be the ones.โ A laugh rippled around the room.
I took a step forward, I am after all a dedicated teacher and I was willing to teach this lesson which desperately needed to be learned. Caleb stopped my advance with an arm across my chest and a raised eyebrow. โPffft itโs not like I would permanently hurt anyone.โ
โLetโs save it for Friday guys.โ Caleb said raising his voice over the chatter. โFor now, youโve got some cleaning to do. Consider it a lesson in how to care for your weapons.โ
We set them to work cleaning out the storage room and the few that were less annoying started off cleaning the blades. Itโs not like they were covered in blood or anything but they were covered in dirt. I had set myself up a little station in the corner with a whetstone that I had found covered in dust in one corner and a beautiful but abused katana that I had found. Caleb was speaking with some of the teachers about conjuring some weapons storage. Apparently, they would be able to have something made up ready for tonight so that we could get everything properly stored away. It was strange, for a school training an army which they didnโt think the majority of which would fight with weapons, they had a shit tonne of weapons in here.
โThatโs a beautiful sword.โ A familiar voice said.
โIt was, and hopefully it will be again, once someone shows it a bit of care.โ I said checking the blade. There was a little notch in the blade that I was hoping to be able to sharpen out. When I looked up it was the kid who had been excited about weapons training earlier.
โIโm Trentโ he said sticking one hand out to me.
โAria.โ I said shaking his hand. โSo, what brings you over here Trent?โ I asked.
โI heard that you were starting up an Elite training scheme.โ He said, sitting down next to me. โI want an audition.โ
I couldnโt help but laugh when I saw the serious look on his face. โItโs not a rock band.โ I was expecting him to show some kind of embarrassment but
he just laughed with me. Colour me intrigued.
โI saw you guys training late at night, youโre the real deal.โ He said. He at least had the decency to look embarrassed when he added. โI snuck into Calebโs office and watched from there before you guys arrived.โ
โReally?โ I was actually impressed that he was able to watch an entire training session without me realising that he was there.
โYeah, sorry about that. Is it true that you have only been training them for three weeks?โ
โYep.โ I said going back to working on the blade. โSo, what do I need to do?โ
โI donโt have an Elite training program yet. This is just an experiment.โ I replied falling back into the repetitive motion of running the blade along the whetstone.
โYou guys are going to wipe the floor with the others. Of course there is going to be an Elite training program. I want in on it.โ He insisted.
โWhat makes you think that you have what it takes?โ
โIโm the top in my class and I want to learn. Whatever it takes.โ He was persistent, Iโd give him that.
โCaleb,โ I shouted over to him waving him over to us as he walked back into the gym. โwhat do you think of this kid.โ
โTrent?โ He asked looking at the kid. โHeโs okay.โ I literally saw Trent bristle at the complement. He clearly thought that he would have got better praise than that.
โHe wants in on an Elite training program.โ I said continuing to work on my sword. I had a specific person in mind who I thought would work well with it and I wanted it to be perfect.
โI could see that.โ He answered. โGood enough for me.โ
โWhat? Thatโs it?โ Trent spluttered in shock. โIโm in? Really?โ He grinned.
โYeah, youโre forgetting that there isnโt actually an Elite training program though.โ I reminded him.
โItโs only a matter of time Aria,โ Caleb answered. โJust wait until after Friday, all of the doubters are going to see what you are made of.โ
We spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning and sorting and once the storage units were in place, we stored everything away properly, earlier than expected. Before I left I slipped the boxes of fighting leathers in the weapons room. By the time I made it back up to the room I was pooped. The guys must not have finished with their afternoon lesson as it was empty when I arrived so I took the opportunity to slip into the shower and wash off some of the grim from the cleaning. Training tonight didnโt start until seven and I wanted to get an early dinner in so the guys would have time to digest before they got to play with blades. I loved it when I moved on to weapons training and they all seemed pretty excited about it the other day when we had cracked out the practice swords Iโd seen in Calebโs office. I want them to learn to move fluidly with the weight of the weapon on them or a weapon in their other hand. It was something which I hadnโt moved on to in my own
training until a few years in and it took a lot of retraining my mind and muscle memory to get right. I want to bring weapons in early enough that they donโt end up going over old stuff. I had a feeling that whatever fight was coming to us wasnโt going to give us enough time for all that. The demon invading the academy was still on my mind. It was obviously not an easy task to get in and I donโt see why anyone would go through so much trouble just to send one demon in. If you had the window of opportunity why not send in as many as you can to cause the maximum amount of damage possible. It just didnโt add up. I moved into the kitchen checking through what we had in. I wasnโt the worldโs best cook but I knew my way around a kitchen and I had Liam add a few things to our shopping list so that I could make a few meals if needs be. Thankfully most of the food was exactly the same as what we had in the human realm. I donโt think I will ever get used to calling it that. Some had different names but everything was basically the same. My plan for tonight was my version of chicken fajitas. Quick, easy and not too heavy on the stomach. I grabbed the ingredients that I would need from the fridge and managed to throw together a quick mango salsa and chop the rest of the ingredients before the guys got back from class. I hadnโt been able to find an alternative for sour cream or avocado to make a guacamole but selfishly I thought they were the worst bit so I wasnโt that bothered. Just as it was nearing five oโclock the guys came stumbling into the room.
โHey kitten,โ Liam said snuggling up behind me and pulling me close to his chest. He ran his nose up the length of my neck and placed a soft kiss behind my ear. My knees were instant jelly and a shiver ran up my spine. โDid you have fun with Caleb this afternoon? We missed you.โ
โI made the second years clear out the weapons room and clean it up.โ I sniggered. โYou should hear some of the shit they are saying about our training group.โ I said spinning in his arms. I may have sat myself in the corner concentrating on getting a selection of weapons in order for my group but I could still hear the crap they were saying. I would have walked over and smacked the shit out of them but I like to think that I was growing as a person. Plus, I had made sure to memorise their faces and if they tried
to get into the Elite group, I was going to smack the shit out of them then instead.
โWhatโs the evil grin for?โ Liam asked peering over my shoulder at the food I had laid out ready to cook. โAnd what are you cooking?โ He had a suspicious look on his face. Mexican food wasnโt apparently a thing over in this realm, even though this wasnโt really authentic Mexican food but it was the best that my meagre cooking skills could do and they were still pretty good.
โI was just plotting my revengeโ I said smiling sweetly up at him.
โThat doesnโt include poisoning us, does it?โ He asked eying the mango salsa.
โHeyโ I said slapping his stomach which was rock solid and achieved nothing. โDonโt mock your mateโs cooking.โ I glared up at him with as much fake outrage as I can muster. โOr at least wait until youโve tried it.โ
โYou have my sincerest of apologies my love.โ Liam said dramatically, dropping down to one knee and holding one of my hands in front of him.
Kyle came over and extracted me from Liamโs dramatics and dropped a kiss down onto my lips. โI missed you today.โ He simply said.
โI missed you tooโ I said snuggling against his chest. He had the most amazing smell to him and even I could admit that he gave the best hugs.
Sykes quickly stepped up behind me and swept me up bridal style in his arms. โStop hogging our mate.โ He said spinning around with me in his arms. I couldnโt help but giggle. What had become of me? I was apparently a giggler now. Oh hell, I donโt care. These three men had taken up residence
in my heart and I couldnโt be happier. Some days I had a slight freak out moment that it was too soon but they were my mates, they were made for me and it really did feel like they were a part of me. I couldnโt imagine not having them in my life and by my side.
โIf you want to eat early enough so that you donโt throw up tonight, Iโm afraid you are going to have to put me down.โ I said gently kissing Sykes on the lips. I loved the way that he looked at me. He was always so playful but when it came to me, he really did have his heart on his sleeve and I could see how much he cared. Sykes gently set me back on my feet and I began cooking up the chicken and some veggies. The tortillas were already warming up in the oven and I had the mango salsa and a salad already prepared. โWhat did I miss this afternoon?โ I asked over my shoulder. Liam had sat at the kitchen table drinking a bottle of water while Kyle and Sykes were going through some books and papers on the desk.
โNot much,โ Kyle said โWe picked up some more books for you from the library though that should help you with demonology.โ
โThanks.โ I smiled over my shoulder at the guys as they came to gather around the table. They really were very nice to look at. Mmmm maybe after training we should all have a bit more alone time. I plated up the chicken and brought all the bowls over to the table. I was so excited about this. The food here wasnโt bad, it just wasnโt quite the same. There was so much that I missed about home, this was just one tiny thing. I think I had given up hope of ever being able to go back there.
โHey, what just happened?โ Kyle said bobbing his head down to meet my eyes. โYou just went somewhere.โ
โJust thinking,โ I replied casually. I didnโt want to get into it really but even as I said it I knew that there was no way that they would just let it go.
โThinking of what kitten?โ Liam asked sliding one hand over mine. As I looked up they all smiled at me. It wasnโt the pity smile that I had come to expect of people it was actual understanding. It was like they genuinely cared about what I was thinking and they wanted to help. I knew that they did care but being able to see it on their face meant so much more.
โHome, I guess.โ I quietly said.
Kyle and Sykes both slipped out of their chairs and dropped to their knees at my side. Liam still held my hand across the table as the others wrapped their arms around me. I was in a little cocoon of understanding and support and it was just what I needed.
โI know that you must have given up a lot when you came here sweetheart. And you werenโt even given a choice about giving it up. I will spend every day, for the rest of my life if I have to, making somewhere, anywhere, feel like a home for you.โ Kyle said nuzzling his face into my neck. โIf that means finding a way back to the human realm then I will move worlds to rip the very veil apart if I have to.โ He whispered.
Tears sprang to my eyes. โThe truth is, I donโt really think Iโve given up all that much to come here. Yes, it was a life that I had forged for myself and it was something that I was happy with, and even proud of. But this, this that I have right here sitting around this tiny dining table is more than I could have ever hoped and dreamed of. I found my mates but more than that I feel like I might finally be finding myself. I donโt think that I would ever want to change any of that.โ
Kyle wrapped his arms around me and I leant my head against his chest. Now this was what it felt like to finally be at home.
Sykes cleared his throat and squeezed my hand a bit tighter. โThis is really touching guys. I think I can say we all feel the same way. The only thing
that could make this moment any better would be food. Some of this tasty smelling and strange looking food.โ Sykes said licking his lips.
I couldnโt help but laugh. โLetโs dig inโ I said. Grabbing a tortilla and putting some chicken and veggies on before topping it with the salsa. The guys were eyeing me suspiciously as I constructed my version of a fajita. I wrapped up the tortilla and took a massive bite. Mmmm it was soooo good. Sykes was the first to make his own with Liam and Kyle closely following. Liam and Kyle seemed to be hanging back a bit, waiting for Sykes to take a bite first just in case. I donโt know whether to laugh or be insulted. Sykes meanwhile just took a massive bite of his fajita, chewed thoughtfully then pointed at his fajita and gave me a thumbs up while he happily kept on chewing. At least Iโd won one of them over. Liam was the next to cave in with a shrug and a bite that morphed into a happy smile. Kyle just started eating like it wasnโt even an issue to begin with. โI canโt believe that you guys are so suspicious of my cooking.โ I scoffed shoving another bite of fajita into my mouth.
โWell, itโs not that long ago that you were confused about what a chicken was.โ Liam said loading up another fajita.
โI wasnโt confused about what a chicken was!โ I said โI was just confused that you had chickens.โ Actually, is that just as bad?
โWell, whatever, this is amazing.โ Sykes said finishing off his second fajita.
