Chapter no 51

Keeping 13 (Boys of Tommen #2)

I was going to kill my best friend, and after enduring seven years of his antics, I was positive there wasnโ€™t a jury in the country that would convict me. Not after his latest stunt.

โ€˜Get out of the window before the girls come back from the bathroom,โ€™ I growled for the fifth fucking time. It was no use, though. My words were falling on deaf ears. Gibsie didnโ€™t even blink in response as he stood, still as a statue, in the display window of Debenhams department store in Mahon Point shopping center, with his hands on his hips in a Superman pose, his jeans around his ankles, and a scantily clad mannequinโ€™s faceless head positioned against his dick.

โ€˜There are kids around,โ€™ I hissed when a lady with two small children cut me a dirty look as she hurried past. โ€˜Come on, lad,โ€™ I pleaded, spotting Shannon and Claire heading in our direction. โ€˜Just come out and Iโ€™ll buy you a combo.โ€™

โ€˜I want the extra-large combo โ€“ย withย Minstrels,โ€™ he stated before turning to stone once more.

โ€˜Fine,โ€™ I agreed, flustered, waving back at Shannon. โ€˜No problem โ€“ just get out of window before you get us lifted by security.โ€™

Grinning widely, Gibsie pulled up his jeans and climbed out of the window, laughing to himself. โ€˜Lad, youโ€™re so easy to get a rise out of.โ€™

โ€˜Just get out of the shop,โ€™ I growled, repressing the urge to strangle him.

โ€˜What are you two doing?โ€™ Claire asked, eyeing us suspiciously. โ€˜Were you shopping?โ€™

โ€˜Maybe,โ€™ Gibsie teased. โ€˜Do you want me to have been shopping?โ€™

โ€˜Definitely not,โ€™ I muttered, making a beeline for my girlfriend, grateful to have her here so I didnโ€™t have to sit next to that gobshite for an entire film. โ€˜You all set?โ€™

โ€˜Yeah.โ€™ Smiling brightly, Shannon nodded and tucked into my side. โ€˜Iโ€™m ready when you are.โ€™

Slinging an arm over her shoulder, we strolled into the lobby of the cinema complex to queue up for our tickets.

Iโ€™d been to the cinema countless times with Gibsie and Claire down through the years, and was more than prepared for the argument that ensued when I asked the dreaded โ€˜What are we going to watch?โ€™ question. It was the same fight they had before every bleeding film. Like an old married couple, they threw down right there in front of the ticket booth.

โ€˜Youโ€™re wrong, Gerard,โ€™ Claire growled, folding her arms across her chest. โ€˜Iโ€™m telling you, we need to go seeย The Wedding Date.โ€™

โ€˜Iโ€™m not listening to you,โ€™ he shot back, glaring right back at her. โ€˜Not afterย The Notebookย escapade.โ€™

โ€˜That was aย greatย movie,โ€™ she choked out, clutching her chest. โ€˜You have no taste.โ€™

โ€˜You cried!โ€™ he spat. โ€˜For days!โ€™

โ€˜So did you!โ€™ she shot back. โ€˜Louder than me.โ€™

โ€˜Exactly,โ€™ Gibsie ground out. โ€˜Which is why Iโ€™m not listening to you again.โ€™

โ€˜Yes, you are.โ€™

โ€˜No, Iโ€™m not doing it,โ€™ he told her. โ€˜Iโ€™m not, Claire. Not this time.โ€™

Tapping her foot, she pouted up at him.

โ€˜Donโ€™t give me that look,โ€™ Gibsie warned her. โ€˜Itโ€™s not working this time. Itโ€™s my turn to pick.โ€™

โ€˜What aboutย Sin City?โ€™ I offered.

โ€˜No,โ€™ they both shot back in unison.

โ€˜Weโ€™re seeingย House of Wax.โ€™

โ€˜No, weโ€™re not!โ€™

โ€˜Yes, we are.โ€™

โ€˜Anyone want to ask what me and Shannon want to watch?โ€™ I asked.

โ€˜No,โ€™ they both barked again.

Shannon chuckled into my side. โ€˜Theyโ€™re so funny.โ€™

โ€˜Claire, itโ€™s my turn,โ€™ Gibsie hissed. โ€˜Youโ€™ve picked for the last ten fucking years!โ€™

โ€˜No, I havenโ€™t,โ€™ she countered. โ€˜You made me go see theย Pokรฉmonย movie.โ€™

โ€˜Because you made me watchย The Spice Girlsย movie!โ€™ Gibsie shot back, looking appalled. โ€˜Do you know how much shit I got off the lads for that? Huh?โ€™

โ€˜Okay,โ€™ Claire coaxed. โ€˜Just let me pick tonight and I swear you can choose next time.โ€™

Gibsieโ€™s eyes bulged. โ€˜Thatโ€™s what you saidย lastย time.โ€™

She rolled her eyes. โ€˜I didnโ€™t mean it last time.โ€™

โ€˜No,โ€™ Gibsie growled, standing firm. โ€˜Weโ€™re watching my film tonight, Claire. Mine.ย Me. Whatย Iย pick.โ€™ He pointed a finger at her. โ€˜And youโ€™re going toย likeย it!โ€™

โ€˜Fine,โ€™ she deadpanned.

โ€˜No, no, no,โ€™ Gibsie growled, frustrated. โ€˜Donโ€™t say fine. Thatโ€™s a dangerous word when it comes out of your mouth.โ€™

โ€˜I said itโ€™s fine, Gerard,โ€™ Claire said flatly. โ€˜Pick the film. I donโ€™t care.โ€™

โ€˜Youโ€™re lying,โ€™ he accused. โ€˜Itโ€™s not fine and youโ€™re going to make me suffer.โ€™

โ€˜Do what you want, Gerard.โ€™

โ€˜Stop mind-fucking me!โ€™

โ€˜Fine.โ€™

โ€˜Donโ€™t say that.โ€™

โ€˜Fine.โ€™

โ€˜Fine!โ€™ He threw his hands up in the air. โ€˜Fucking fine. You win.โ€™ Turning to the man sitting behind the counter, he said, โ€˜Two tickets forย The Wedding Dateย please, and a container for her to store my balls in.โ€™ Sighing wearily, he gestured over his shoulder to me. โ€˜And that poor bastard behind me will have the same.โ€™

โ€˜Yay!โ€™ Claire squealed happily and wrapped her arms around his waist. โ€˜Youโ€™re going to love it.โ€™

โ€˜Itโ€™s not fair, but whatever,โ€™ Gibsie muttered as he paid the man and handed Claire the tickets, stepping aside for me to pay and collect mine and Shannonโ€™s tickets. โ€˜Doesnโ€™t ever matter what I want.โ€™

โ€˜Youโ€™re the best.โ€™ Pressing a kiss to his cheek, she stepped back, waving the tickets in the air. โ€˜Iโ€™ll share my popcorn with you.โ€™

โ€˜Hmm,โ€™ he grunted, with his nose cocked in the air. โ€˜Iโ€™m not hungry anymore.โ€™

โ€˜Oh, come on, you big, cranky baby,โ€™ she coaxed, grabbing his hand. โ€˜Youโ€™re hungry and you know it. Letโ€™s beat the food queue.โ€™

Gibsie relented with a huff and let Claire drag him off in the direction of the concession stands. โ€˜Fine, but you get the Maltesers and Iโ€™ll get the Minstrels โ€“ that way we have it covered.โ€™

โ€˜Obviously,โ€™ she snorted.

โ€˜Do you want something to eat?โ€™ I asked, turning to look at Shannon.

She shrugged and tucked her hair behind her ear. โ€˜I donโ€™t know.โ€™

โ€˜You donโ€™t know?โ€™ I arched a brow. โ€˜Are you hungry?โ€™

โ€˜Are you getting something?โ€™ she answered my question with one of her own.

โ€˜I might.โ€™ I watched her carefully. โ€˜Only if you get something.โ€™

She blew out a small breath, cheeks reddening. โ€˜If youโ€™re sure?โ€™

โ€˜Is this about money?โ€™ I came right out and asked her. โ€˜Because I already told you Iโ€™m paying.โ€™

Looking embarrassed, she glanced down at her feet and then back up at me. โ€˜Iโ€™ll eat some of your popcorn if youโ€™re getting some.โ€™

Knowing that was all I would get out of her, I nodded and led her to the food court and ordered a large tub of popcorn, a large coke, and a bottle of water. โ€˜Thank you,โ€™ she whispered as we trailed through the complex after Gibsie and Claire. โ€˜I really appreciate itโ€“โ€™

โ€˜If you thank me for buying you a bleeding coke, Iโ€™m going to throw a tantrum worse than Gibs.โ€™ Handing her the coke, I pulled the door of screen one open and gestured for her to go ahead of me. โ€˜I mean it, Shan.โ€™

โ€˜Like the one in the kitchen earlier?โ€™ she snickered, hurrying inside. โ€˜With your parents?โ€™

โ€˜Ugh.โ€™ I shuddered and followed after her. โ€˜Donโ€™t remind me.โ€™

โ€˜Itโ€™s okay,โ€™ she teased. โ€˜When the lights go out, Iโ€™ll make you feel better.โ€™

โ€˜Do you promise?โ€™ I muttered under my breath.

โ€˜I promise,โ€™ she whispered, squeezing my ass.
