Chapter no 24 – SUMMERโ€Œ

Collide

โ€œLIKE A STIFLERโ€™S mom situation?โ€ Amara asks, shoveling a spoonful of cereal into her mouth.

โ€œMore like Stiflerโ€™s grandma,โ€ I say, putting my laptop into my bag.

Amara chokes, mirroring my reaction when I found out about Dylanโ€™s escapades. โ€œSomehow, those guys continue to surprise me,โ€ she says through a bout of coughs. โ€œSo, whatโ€™s your decision on the captain?โ€

I shrug. โ€œIโ€™m thinking about it.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s there to think about? He made you see stars. Iโ€™m pretty sure that checks all the criteria.โ€

I place my mug. โ€œI donโ€™t usually do this kind of thing.โ€ โ€œHooking up?โ€ she supplies.

โ€œWeโ€™re not hooking up.โ€

โ€œYou rode his face into oblivion. Sorry to break it to you, but that screams hookup to me.โ€

โ€œI specifically remember you saying you floated off the couch,โ€ Cassie chimes in when she enters our dorm.

โ€œGreat timing, Cass.โ€ Amara smiles. โ€œWe also canโ€™t forget how you two were stuck together like glue at his party.โ€ Her knowing eyes tell me she saw more than I hoped.

โ€œI was drunk.โ€

โ€œUh-huh, right,โ€ she mocks. โ€œSo, let me get this straight. There is a super hot hockey player that makes you laugh and gives you mind-altering orgasms, yet you still donโ€™t want to fuck him?โ€

Cassie lifts her fingers as if to count something that doesnโ€™t add up. This is not the intervention I need this morning. I was hoping more for a long list of reasons on why this is a bad idea.

โ€œBecause we hooked up one time, and he pretty much ran out the door right after,โ€ I try to explain.

โ€œThat wasย afterย he left the ball in your court. Or the puck in yourโ€ฆrink.

Whatever, you get it.โ€

โ€œTime to net the puck. Pretty straightforward,โ€ says Cassie.

I shake my head in disbelief. Are these girls my friends or are they praying for my downfall? โ€œWhat do you want me to do? Go over there and ask him to fuck me?โ€

โ€œYes!โ€ they exclaim in unison.

I blame Kian for this. If he hadnโ€™t invited me to the party or dragged me to Starlight, I wouldnโ€™t have these thoughts. I wouldnโ€™t be thinking about how quickly he lifted me off the ground when I fell or how close he got outside the lounge. If heโ€™d just let me rot in my dorm with a box of pizza none of this would be happening.

โ€œTake my car.โ€

โ€œI have class. Iโ€™m not going there for a nine a.m. booty call.โ€

Amara places her keys in my palm. โ€œDo us all a favor and let that man do unspeakable things to you.โ€

Cassie high-fives Amara then they shove me out the door.

Five minutes later, Iโ€™m sitting in Amaraโ€™s car, making a mental pros and cons list that somehow only fills up the pros side. If I were well rested, I could make a more logic-driven decision.

Ten minutes have passed in my contemplation, which leaves twenty minutes until my class. I wonโ€™t be able to sit through one hundred eighty minutes of the most coma-inducing lecture on the planet without fixing this situation. The carrot dangles in front of me as I drive to the hockey house.

I make my way up the steps and see Eli in the driveway. โ€œBack for more?โ€ he asks.

โ€œHuh?โ€ Is it obvious what Iโ€™m here to do? Maybe thereโ€™s a big dick with Aidenโ€™s name drawn on my forehead that I didnโ€™t see.

โ€œMore research. Your paper is about hockey, right?โ€

Right, that. โ€œOh, yes, it is. Canโ€™t get enough of that research!โ€ He chuckles. โ€œHeโ€™s in the living room.โ€

The house is quiet, and keeping my heart from falling out of my throat is a challenge when I see the back of his head.

โ€œIโ€™m here.โ€

Aiden lifts his head in surprise then eyes me from his seat on the couch. โ€œI see that,โ€ he says, turning back to his laptop.

I close his laptop, forcing him to remove his hands from the keyboard. โ€œIโ€™m here because I want you.โ€ I push the words out with great difficulty.

His expression flashes before itโ€™s neutral again. Aiden shifts to get comfortable on the couch, delving deeper into the cushions. โ€œWant me toโ€ฆ?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re going to make me say it?โ€

He smirks at me. Like a fucking prick. I want to walk out, but Iโ€™ve been battling my head for days. There is no more denying that this is what I want. Also, because I donโ€™t want to hear the lecture Amara will have for me if I chicken out.

I stand straighter. โ€œI want you to fuck me.โ€

Aiden scrambles to sit up and give me his full attention.

โ€œNever thought Iโ€™d ever hear Sunny say that.โ€ Our heads whip to the archway that leads into the living room, and I see four wide-eyed juniors and one very amused Dylan. โ€œYou gotta start sharing your secrets, Cap,โ€ he snickers.

โ€œOh my god.โ€ My face flames from my neck to my ears. Mortification tickles my bones and pales my skin.

Aiden curses under his breath when he sees my blanched face.

โ€œI-Iโ€™m going to go.โ€ I make a beeline for the door, ignoring Aiden calling my name. When Iโ€™m halfway down the steps, he catches my arm.

โ€œWait.โ€

I try to wrangle away my arm. โ€œSave me the humiliation.โ€ He doesnโ€™t let go but turns me to face him.

I groan. โ€œDo you enjoy embarrassing me?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve never embarrassed you. You do that all on your own.โ€ He smiles. โ€œWhat do you want?โ€

โ€œYou.โ€ A part of my chest melts. โ€œTrust me, thatโ€™s not even in the top ten embarrassing things to happen in that house.โ€

โ€œIt was in front of your entire team!โ€ โ€œIt was the juniors. Who cares?โ€

โ€œI do! Now they think Iโ€™m some girl who would do anything for dick.โ€ His brows raise. โ€œAre you?โ€

Is this really the guy I wanted to have sex with?

Yes.

I hit his arm, but that only makes him bark out a laugh. Which would be a pretty hot sound if I wasnโ€™t so irritated right now.

When warm fingers reach to lift my chin, my stomach flutters. โ€œDid you mean what you said?โ€

This is no time to be a coward, Summer.

I swallow hard. โ€œYes.โ€

His tense shoulders relax, and he grins. โ€œSay it again.โ€ โ€œHell, no.โ€

โ€œCome on. One more time,โ€ he goads.

I shake my head more seriously now. Aiden shrugs and turns to leave. I fight the urge to roll my eyes when I grab the sleeve of his T-shirt to pull him back to me. He comes easily, not even trying to hide the big smile on his stupidly smug face.

I breathe a dramatic sigh. โ€œI want you to fuck me.โ€

Aidenโ€™s eyes light like a kid on Christmas. โ€œWas that so hard?โ€ โ€œExtremely,โ€ I say. Then the awkward feeling starts to creep back in, and

my brain tells me to neatly sort this situation before it slips from my fingers. โ€œSo, like a friendโ€™s with benefits thing. People with benefits? Or fuck buddies, I guess.โ€

Aidenโ€™s jaw ticks. โ€œRight.โ€ He rubs the back of his neck, and his bunching biceps momentarily distracting me. โ€œNow?โ€

The word sends a hot burst of heat through me, but I shake my head. โ€œUh no.โ€ I take a safe step away. โ€œI have class, then Iโ€™m going over my paper with Donny. But Iโ€™m free Friday.โ€

He tenses at the mention of Donny. โ€œI have practice till seven. How about eight?โ€

If anyone were to hear us, it would sound like a business meeting, but the ease of the conversation is the only thing keeping me from wanting to wipe myself from the face of the planet.

โ€œYour place? The guys will probably have a party theyโ€™re not supposed to have here,โ€ he says.

โ€œSure. Amaraโ€™s out on Fridays.โ€ โ€œWorks for me.โ€

I turn to leave but stop. โ€œAnd can we keep this low-key? I know the guys in there heard me, but Iโ€™d rather everyone else not know.โ€

โ€œEmbarrassed?โ€ The question is probably meant as a joke, but Iโ€™m confused by the prickly contempt that slips into his tone.

โ€œI just donโ€™t want everyone in our business.โ€ โ€œYeah, I get it. Iโ€™ll see you later, Summer.โ€
