But what I was really thinking was, I canโt tell him that. Heโll think Iโm making fun of him, and heโll smack me.

COLD, COLD EVELYN
Why would a beautiful couple with a gorgeous five-bedroom home not be interested in filling it up with a brood of children? Youโd have to ask Don Adler and Evelyn Hugo that question.
Or maybe youโd just have to ask Evelyn.
Don wants a baby, and certainly weโve all been waiting with bated breath to find out when the progeny of those two beautiful creatures will make his or her way into the world. We know any child they have would be sure to send us into fits of swooning.
But Evelynโs saying no.
Instead, all Evelyn talks about is her career, including her new movie, Little Women.
More than that, Evelyn doesnโt even attempt to keep a clean house or mind her husbandโs simple requests, and she canโt be bothered to be kind to the help.
Instead, sheโs out at Schwabโs with single girls like Celia St. James!
Poor Donโs at home, yearning for a child, while Evelynโs out having the time of her life.
Itโs all Evelyn, Evelyn, Evelyn in that house.
And sheโs left a very unsatisfied husband.
IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING?โ I said as I threw the magazine onto Harryโs desk. But of course, heโd already seen it.
โItโs not that bad.โ
โItโs not good.โ
โNo, itโs not.โ
โWhy didnโt anyone take care of this?โ I asked.
โBecause Sub Rosa isnโt listening to us anymore.โ
โWhat do you mean?โ
โThey donโt care about the truth or access to stars. They are just printing whatever they want.โ
โThey care about money, donโt they?โ
โYes, but they will make way more by pontificating about the ins and outs of your marriage than we can afford to pay them.โ
โYou are Sunset Studios.โ
โAnd if you havenโt noticed, we arenโt making nearly as much money as we used to.โ
My shoulders slumped. I sat in one of the chairs facing Harryโs desk. There was a knock.
โItโs Celia,โ she said through the door.
I walked over and opened it for her.
โI take it youโve seen the piece,โ I said.
